Scholarship application timeline 2026-27: a 12-month plan for Pakistani students

A month-by-month plan from October 2026 to September 2027, with the latest confirmed dates for Chevening, Fulbright, DAAD, MEXT, GKS, CSC, Türkiye, Hungary and more.

✍️ Titans Abroad Team·October 14, 2026·⏱ 13 min read

Most Pakistani applicants lose scholarships in the months before the deadline, not on the day. The IELTS slot was full. The degree was still waiting at the HEC attestation counter. The professor who promised a recommendation letter went quiet in the last week. None of that is bad luck. It is a calendar problem, and a calendar problem has a calendar fix.

Today is 14 October 2026, so this plan runs from October 2026 to September 2027 and aims at a September or October 2027 start. One thing to know up front: scholarships name their cycles by the year you start studying, not the year you apply. Chevening's "2027/28" round, for example, closed on 6 October 2026. Most other programs below have not published their next call yet. Where they have not, I give the dates of the last call we could confirm, and you should treat them as a forecast, not a promise.

What the 12-month plan assumes

You want to start in 2027 and have not yet booked an English test or started attestation. You will apply to several scholarships at once, because the document pile overlaps. Our documents checklist for international scholarships lists the shared pile.

Deadline calendar: what is confirmed and what is a forecast

Dates below come from official pages, or from official notices quoted in search results where the site would not load for us. "Last call" means the most recent dates published. Fees, seats and dates change, so check the official site before you act. As of 14 October 2026, I found no announced calls for the next cycle of the programs marked "not announced".

Erasmus Mundus Joint MastersEach master sets its own date. The Erasmus+ site says that in most cases you apply between October and January for courses starting the next academic year.Open or opening now. Check each master's own website for the date and for scholarship rules.
Commonwealth Master's (UK)2027-28: the HEC announcement lists 20 October 2026 for the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission portal. A university page shows 16 October 2026, so sources differ. You apply to the Commission and to a nominating agency, which may set an earlier date. If you read this on or after 14 October, check with HEC today.
Australia Awards Pakistan (Master's only)2027 intake: opened 1 February 2026, closed 30 April 20262028 intake not announced. Expect a similar February to April window if the pattern holds.

Official pages: Chevening timeline, USEFP Fulbright page, DAAD Pakistan programme list, Embassy of Japan MEXT page, Türkiye Scholarships announcement, Korean Embassy Pakistan GKS notice. October to February is crowded with Erasmus Mundus, CSC, Hungary and Türkiye. February to May belongs to Fulbright, Australia Awards, Korea and Japan. The second half of the year is DAAD, Chevening and the Korean undergraduate call. A student who plans for one season wastes half the year.

If you are applying for a bachelor's

Our program pages list CSC and Türkiye Burslari at bachelor's level, and Korea runs a separate undergraduate call. For CSC, the CSCA exam is mandatory for bachelor's applicants from the 2026/2027 intake. The sittings are November 14-15, 2026, December 19-20, 2026 and January 23-24, 2027, and scores stay valid for two years. HEC's CSC page also says the exam is mandatory for undergraduate applicants. Book a sitting before you submit, not after. The details are in the CSCA exam guide, and the China scholarships hub shows which Chinese programs need it. If Chinese-taught study is on your list, add the HSK guide as well. Master's and PhD applicants do not need the CSCA.

Tests: pick one and book early

Most master's and PhD programs want proof of English. Some accept a medium of instruction certificate from your university. Our CSC scholarship page says IELTS or TOEFL is not required if your previous degree was taught in English. Rules differ by program, so read each one's instructions.

Choosing between IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and Duolingo is its own decision, covered in which English test to take in Pakistan. If your degree was in English and a program accepts a university letter, the MOI letter guide may save you the test fee. Book now, sit in November or December, and keep a spare month for a retake.

Attestation and certificates: the slow lane

Attestation is the one task you cannot speed up by working harder. You depend on a university, HEC, IBCC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, each with its own queue. Our GKS page says educational documents must be HEC attested and MOFA attested. That is a common requirement across programs, so start in November even if your first deadline is months away. The step-by-step is in the IBCC and MOFA attestation guide.

Two other documents catch people late. Medical and police certificates carry dates, and some programs want them recent. See the police certificate and medical report guide before you order them, and hold them until a program asks. If you have a gap between degrees, write the explanation early using the study gap letter guide.

Writing, recommenders and professors

A good motivation letter goes through at least three drafts, and a research proposal takes longer. Start with the document most specific to your field: the SOP guide, the motivation letter guide, the study plan guide for CSC, GKS and MEXT, or the PhD research proposal guide. Build your academic CV first.

Recommendation letters are the part you control least. Ask in December, give your recommenders a one-page summary of your work, and agree a date at least a week before the real deadline. Our recommendation letter guide covers who to ask. Our GKS page says the letters should come from university professors or research supervisors, not employers or family. If you need a supervisor's acceptance, start in November with the professor email guide.

How many scholarships to apply to

A sensible spread is a few reach scholarships, a few where your profile clearly fits, and one or two you are confident you can finish properly. For most students that means six to ten applications across the year, with deadlines in different seasons. The program pages set limits you have to plan around:

  • Erasmus Mundus: our scholarship page suggests 4 to 6 programs, because each is judged separately, and each needs its own tailored letter.
  • Chevening: three different UK university courses, with an unconditional offer from one by the offer deadline.
  • Türkiye Burslari: up to 12 programs in one application, and your preference order matters.
  • GKS: choose the embassy track or the university track, not both. Our scholarship page says applying to both leads to disqualification.
  • Stipendium Hungaricum and CSC Type A: both need an HEC portal submission as well as the foreign portal.

Budgeting for application costs

Scholarship applications are mostly free, but preparing them is not. I will not quote figures here, because fees change. Make a list of cost lines and price each from the official source:

  • The English test fee, and a possible retake.
  • Attestation and verification charges at the university, HEC, IBCC and MOFA.
  • Notarization, translation, courier and passport renewal.
  • The medical examination and the police clearance certificate.
  • Bank statements or other proof of funds when a visa stage asks for them (see the proof of funds guide).

Our CSC scholarship page notes there is no application fee at most CSC-authorized universities. Erasmus Mundus says plainly that it has no official agents, and you should never pay anyone to submit for you. If someone is charging a "scholarship processing fee", read how to spot a fake study abroad consultant before you send money.

Tracking applications in a sheet

A spreadsheet beats a notebook because it can sort by deadline. Use one row per scholarship and a second tab for documents. The entries below are a made-up applicant's, for illustration only.

ScholarshipLevelOpensDeadline (confirmed on official site)Essays neededLetters neededStatus
Sample: Program AMaster'sJanuaryDate from official siteMotivation letter2Draft 2 done
Sample: Program BMaster'sOctoberDate from official siteStudy plan2Waiting on recommender
Sample: Program CPhDVariesDate from official siteResearch proposal2Professor email sent

Add columns for the submission date and result date. In the second tab, list each certificate, its attestation date and the file name you uploaded, so you can find any document in seconds. Write the time zone next to each deadline.

Interviews and visas

Interviews usually come months after you submit. Chevening interviews for the 2027/28 round run March to April 2027 at British embassies and high commissions. Our Türkiye Burslari page puts interview invitations at April to June. The scholarship interview preparation guide covers how to rehearse.

Visa work starts the day you accept an award. Read the visa rejection reasons guide before you submit. When the visa is approved, move to the pre-departure checklist. For the wider picture, our scholarships guide for Pakistani students and the full scholarships directory are the places to browse.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start if my first deadline is only three months away?

Start with whichever step has an outside queue: the English test, attestation and recommendation letters. Write while you wait. If a document cannot arrive in time, a program with a later deadline is a better use of your effort than a rushed submission.

Why does a "2026-27" scholarship have a deadline in early 2026?

Programs name the cycle by the year you start studying. Hungary's 2026-27 call and the CSC Type A 2026-27 call closed in January 2026, before the intake year began. If you read "2026-27" now, you have probably missed it. The next one is the "2027-28" call.

Can I apply to scholarships for different countries in the same year?

Yes. Some programs forbid holding another award at the same time, and some limit tracks. GKS allows only one track. Applying widely is fine. Accepting two awards is not.

Do I need attested documents before I apply?

It depends on the program and the stage. Some ask for them at submission, others only after nomination. Our GKS page asks for HEC and MOFA attested documents, so assume you need them and start early, then confirm in the official instructions.

What if a deadline in this article has already passed?

Treat it as a forecast. Most programs repeat a similar window each year, so last year's dates tell you what to prepare for. Confirm the new dates on the official site before you plan around them.

The students who win funding are rarely the most brilliant in the room. They are the ones whose paperwork was ready the day the portal opened.
