The documents required for MBBS in China from Pakistan are: a passport, your Matric and FSc results (IBCC-attested), a police character certificate, a Foreigner Physical Examination Form, passport photos, proof of English or English-medium schooling, and the university's own application form. After admission you add the JW202 form, the admission notice and proof of funds for the X1 visa. Exact lists differ by university, so your admission pack is the final word.
This page gives the full checklist in the order you will need things, explains the attestation steps, and says what changed with the apostille. It is for students and parents who want to start collecting papers now without wasting money on the wrong stamp. For the application itself, read our step-by-step guide to applying for MBBS in China.
What documents are required for MBBS in China?
There are two sets. The first set goes to the university with your application. The second set is for the visa, and you prepare it only after you get an admission notice. Mixing them up is the most common reason families pay for papers twice.
| Document | Needed for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Passport (bio page scan) | Application and visa | Visa centre lists more than 6 months validity and a blank visa page |
| Matric certificate and FSc results | Application | Many universities ask for certified or notarised copies; IBCC-attested originals are the safe route |
| Passport-size photo, white background | Application and visa | Digital colour photo; check size in the pack |
| English proof (test or school letter) | Application | Differs by university; see below |
| Police character certificate | Visa, sometimes application | Required from age 10; needs QR code or MOFA apostille |
| Foreigner Physical Examination Form | Visa or registration | Valid 6 months from issue |
| Admission notice and JW202 form | Visa | Issued by the university after admission |
| Proof of funds | Visa | Karachi visa centre cites US$2,500 per academic year |
| CNIC copy | Visa | Front and back |
| CSCA result | Application, some universities | Check each university |
Nanjing Medical University is a useful example of a real 2026 list. Its MBBS admission notice for 2026 asks for a white-background photo, the highest diploma, an academic transcript (scanned or notarised, in Chinese or English), a certificate of non-criminal record, the Foreigner Physical Examination Form, and English proficiency proof. Your target university may ask for more or less.
Which documents does the university ask for at application stage?
Most Chinese medical universities take scanned documents through an online portal first. They check your results, your passport and your English level, then issue a pre-admission letter or admission notice. Originals and attested copies come later.
Academic documents
- Matric certificate and detailed marks certificate.
- FSc Part 1 and Part 2 result cards. If you are still sitting the exam, a pre-graduation or "result awaited" letter from your college is usually accepted for the first round.
- Science subjects matter. Xiamen University, for example, says applicants need high school biology, mathematics, and physics or chemistry. Our MBBS in China eligibility guide covers marks and subject rules.
Identity documents
- Passport bio page. Some universities also ask for a birth certificate and parent ID, as Xiamen's MBBS admissions page does.
- CNIC or B-Form copy. The Karachi visa centre asks for the front and back of the CNIC at the visa stage.
Other items
- Photo, application form and application fee if the university charges one.
- Personal statement, video introduction or interview. These vary a lot. Older Xiamen guidance asked for a video and a statement, but we could not confirm that it still applies, so read the current page.
- CSCA result where required. See our CSCA exam guide and the note on universities that do not yet require it.
Do I need English proof for MBBS in China?
Usually yes, but it does not have to be IELTS. English-taught MBBS programmes want evidence that you can study in English. What counts depends on the university.
The January 2026 Xiamen University MBBS FAQ (for the fall 2026 intake) accepts IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 80 or Duolingo 100, or a school certificate showing your earlier schooling was fully in English. It also says Chinese (HSK) is not required for admission. Nanjing Medical University accepts a test result or supporting documents, which can include a certificate that your high school taught in English.
Many Pakistani students use an English-medium school letter. Read our English proficiency certificate and MOI letter guide for how to ask your school for one. If your school taught in English, check first whether the university accepts it before paying for a test.
Do my FSc documents need IBCC attestation or equivalence?
They need IBCC attestation, not equivalence, if you studied in the Pakistani system. Those are two different services, and families often confuse them.
- Attestation confirms that your Matric and FSc certificates are genuine. It is the first link in the chain for Pakistani board certificates.
- Equivalence converts a foreign qualification into a Pakistani one. You need it only if you did O and A levels, an American high school diploma or another non-Pakistani system.
If you did A levels, you should apply for equivalence early because Chinese universities may ask for your grade conversion and because it also matters for Pakistani rules later. IBCC does not accept distance, online or home-study qualifications for equivalence. Our IBCC attestation and equivalence guide has the steps and fees.
Do I need HEC attestation for MBBS in China?
Almost never. HEC attests degrees and transcripts from universities. A school leaver applying for MBBS has no degree yet, so IBCC and then MOFA are the offices that matter. HEC becomes relevant if you already hold a bachelor's degree and are applying for a second one, or if a later step needs your Pakistani university papers.
News reports say HEC moved degree attestation fully online from 11 May 2026, through its e-services portal with an e-certificate. We could not confirm that on an official HEC page, so check hec.gov.pk before paying anyone to do it.
Do I need MOFA attestation or apostille for MBBS in China?
Sometimes. The rule changed in 2023, and old advice about "embassy attestation" is now out of date.
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| 9 March 2023 | Pakistan's accession to the Apostille Convention took effect. MOFA said Pakistan accepts foreign apostilles from convention states without further attestation. |
| 7 November 2023 | The Apostille Convention took effect in mainland China. China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues Chinese apostilles, and Chinese authorities accept an apostille from the country where the document was issued. |
In practice this means a Pakistani document can carry a MOFA apostille and does not need a second stamp from the Chinese embassy. The Karachi visa centre says a police certificate without a verifiable QR code "must be accompanied by an apostille issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan." The same page says a name-change certificate must also be apostilled.
What the university itself wants for your school certificates is a different question. Some accept IBCC-attested scans at application. Others want notarised or apostilled copies before the visa. Ask the admissions office what they need and at which stage. You can read the MOFA statement on Pakistan's accession, and our MOFA attestation and apostille guide explains the new Digital Attestation System that our guide says started on 12 October 2026. Confirm current steps on the MOFA portal itself.
What is the foreigner physical examination form?
It is the standard medical form that foreigners staying in China for more than six months must complete. It lists your history, examination results and tests, and it carries your photo and the hospital's stamp.
The Beijing municipal government guide says the record must be in Chinese or English, show a clear issue date, and be valid for six months. It needs the examinee's photo with a hospital seal, the test results, the doctor's signature and a matching hospital seal. The exam follows the international traveller health certificate standard and includes original reports: X-ray, ECG, lab tests (at least HIV and syphilis) and ultrasound. Read the Beijing guide to the health entrance examination for the details.
The same guide says exams done abroad should be at a public hospital, and private facilities may need notarisation. It also says Chinese embassy or consulate certification may be required. The tests differ by city, and the Karachi visa centre page we checked does not list the form. So follow your admission pack. Many students do the exam after arrival in China instead, because the form is only valid for six months and a delayed visa can make a Pakistani exam expire. If you are unsure, ask the university before you book a hospital.
Keep the originals and bring them to China. You will need them for the residence permit. Our police certificate and medical report guide covers the Pakistani side in more detail.
How old can the police certificate be?
No official number is published on the Karachi visa centre page. It says only that the certificate must be valid and updated, and that applicants aged 10 and above must submit one covering the period from birth to the present.
The practical answer is to get it fresh. A police certificate issued by Punjab Police is described by a Pakistani mission as valid for 180 days. Our scholarship checklist also treats police and medical papers as having roughly six-month windows. So apply for it after you receive the admission notice, not at the start of your search.
Things to check before you pay for it:
- That the certificate has a verifiable QR code. If not, it needs a MOFA apostille.
- That your name matches your passport exactly.
- Whether your province has moved online. In August 2026 the federal government approved a nationwide online system in principle, but we could not confirm a launch date.
What does the visa stage need?
You apply for an X1 visa, which is for study longer than 180 days. The Karachi Chinese Visa Application Service Centre page lists the following.
- Passport valid for more than 6 months with at least one blank visa page, plus a copy of the bio page.
- Copy of the front and back of your CNIC.
- Police character certificate for applicants aged 10 and above.
- Printout of the online Confirmation Form for Study in China (JW201 or JW202).
- Photocopy of the admission letter.
- Financial proof: scholarship evidence or US$2,500 per academic year, or the equivalent in Pakistani rupees.
X1 applicants must attend an interview in person. After entry, you must apply for a residence permit within 30 days. See our proof of funds guide for how to prepare the bank statement. Sources disagree on funds figures, so confirm the current requirement with the visa centre.
The JW202 is the form for self-funded students. The university issues it after confirming your enrolment. You do not make it yourself.
Which documents does PMDC need before I travel?
There are two separate things here, and the first has changed. MDCAT is not required for Pakistani students seeking admission to foreign medical institutions since PM&DC public notice No. Exam-59/2026/350 of 5 October 2026. Read our summary of the PM&DC notice and the MDCAT FAQ.
What you still need later is a degree from a PM&DC-recognised institution, the NEB assessment if you transfer into a Pakistani institution, and the registration exam (NRE) to practise in Pakistan. Earlier 2026 conditions, such as FSc 60% and registration on srf.pmdc.pk, are unconfirmed after the notice. Check pmdc.pk before you pay a deposit.
Also check your university. Our directory lists many Chinese universities as PMDC-approved, but treat that as a flag to verify on pmdc.pk and search.wdoms.org. Our guide on how to verify PMDC-recognised universities in China shows how.
What if my documents are in Urdu or not in English?
Most Pakistani education certificates are in English, so this is rare. Nanjing Medical University accepts transcripts in Chinese or English. If something is in Urdu, such as a name-change deed, get a certified translation. Check whether the university or visa centre wants the translation notarised.
A practical order for collecting documents
- Check your passport expiry. If it has under a year left, renew it now, because you will study in China for five or more years.
- Collect Matric and FSc originals and apply for IBCC attestation. Add equivalence if you did O or A levels.
- Arrange English proof: a school letter or a test result.
- Apply to the universities with scanned documents and your CSCA result if needed.
- When the admission notice and JW202 arrive, apply for the police certificate and the MOFA apostille if it lacks a QR code.
- Book the medical exam, keeping the six-month window in mind.
- Prepare the bank statement and CNIC copies, then apply for the visa.
Our pre-departure checklist picks up from there. If you want a second pair of eyes on your folder, Titans Abroad does not charge a consultation fee, and you can start on our apply now page. We help with IBCC, MOFA and visa preparation.
Common mistakes with MBBS documents
- Getting the police certificate or medical form too early, so it expires before the visa.
- Paying for embassy legalisation that the apostille has replaced.
- Name spelling that differs between the passport, CNIC and certificates.
- Applying for equivalence when you only needed attestation, or the other way round.
- Trusting a document list from an agent without checking the university's page.
Frequently asked questions
What documents are required for MBBS admission in China?
You need a passport, Matric and FSc results, a photo, English proof and the application form. After admission you need a police certificate, a physical examination form, the JW202 and admission notice, proof of funds and a CNIC copy for the visa. Each university publishes its own list, so use that.
Do I need MOFA attestation for MBBS in China?
Only for some documents. China and Pakistan are both in the Apostille Convention, so a MOFA apostille replaces embassy legalisation. The Karachi visa centre requires one if your police certificate has no verifiable QR code. For school certificates, ask your university which stage it wants them at.
What is the foreigner physical examination form?
It is the medical record foreigners staying in China more than six months must complete. It has your photo, hospital seal, doctor's signature and results such as X-ray, ECG and lab tests. It is valid for six months. Many universities let you complete it after arrival, so check before booking.
How old can the police certificate be?
The Karachi visa centre does not state a number, only that it must be updated. A Punjab Police certificate is described as valid for 180 days, so treat about six months as the limit. Apply after you get your admission notice, and make sure it has a verifiable QR code.
Do my FSc documents need IBCC equivalence?
No, not if you studied under a Pakistani board. They need IBCC attestation. Equivalence is for foreign qualifications such as O and A levels or a US high school diploma. If that is you, apply early, because it takes time and is needed before other steps.
Which documents does PMDC need before I travel?
MDCAT is not required for foreign admission since the PM&DC notice of 5 October 2026. Other May 2026 conditions, such as FSc 60% and srf.pmdc.pk registration, are unconfirmed after that notice. Check pmdc.pk before you pay a deposit, and confirm your university on pmdc.pk and search.wdoms.org.
How long should passport validity be?
The Karachi visa centre lists more than 6 months plus at least one blank visa page. Some other sources say longer, and a course lasts five or more years. Renew early if your passport has under a year left, since the visa will be placed in it.
Can I use scanned copies when I apply?
Usually yes for the first round. Chinese universities generally take scans through an online portal and ask for originals or attested copies later. The Nanjing 2026 notice accepts scans or notarised copies of the diploma and transcript. Keep originals safe and ask the university when it needs them.
Next step
Start with the two items that take longest: IBCC attestation and your English proof. Then collect the documents required for MBBS in China in the order above, and confirm each with your chosen university. For the cost side, read our total cost guide, and see the MBBS in China country page for universities.
