University scholarships for MBBS in China are real, but they are small, usually partial, and mostly paid after you enrol. The typical award is a one-time entry payment of about 4,500 to 15,000 RMB, or a yearly merit award of 5,000 to 15,000 RMB. A full tuition waiver for self-funded MBBS is rare. Be careful with any offer that promises "100% free MBBS".

This guide separates the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) from awards that individual universities pay from their own budgets. It shows how those awards are structured, what a few named universities say, how to spot fake offers and when to apply. For the country-by-country view, read our fully funded MBBS scholarships guide. This post covers China only.

Quick answer: what do Pakistani students actually get?

  • CSC is a government programme. For undergraduate medicine, sources conflict on whether it covers English-taught MBBS, so read the current notice before you plan around it.
  • University awards are the common route. They are entry awards (one payment at enrolment) or merit awards (yearly, based on exam results).
  • Amounts are usually quoted as a fixed RMB figure, not a percentage. We show each one next to the tuition so you can see the real share.
  • Most awards do not reduce your first-year payment. Many are paid after registration or from year 2.

Does the CSC scholarship cover MBBS in China?

This is the question where sources disagree. The China Scholarship Council runs the Chinese Government Scholarship and lists programmes on campuschina.org. Bachelor's applicants for 2026/27 must take the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) and upload a valid score, as the Chinese Embassy in the US notice states. That notice does not mention medicine either way.

Many agency blogs say CSC does not fund MBBS. One or two say it does. Neither side gives an official list. Our own university directory also notes that CSC mainly covers postgraduate programmes and tells students to confirm bachelor-level MBBS eligibility with the university. Nanjing Medical University was among 14 universities approved in 2014 to admit CSC students, but that is an old list.

What to do: open the programme search on campuschina.org, look for your university and the MBBS or clinical medicine programme, and read that year's application guide. If the programme is not listed, assume it is not funded. Our China scholarships guide covers CSC routes, and the CSCA exam guide explains the test. If a CSC place is shortlisted through the Pakistani channel, your nomination also depends on the USAT exam.

What is a university scholarship, and how is it different?

A university scholarship is paid by the university or its city or province, not by the central government. It is open to self-funded students who already hold an admission offer. The university decides who gets it, how much, and for how long.

You will meet four types:

  • Entry or freshman award: paid once, based on your admission file or entry results.
  • Merit or excellence award: paid each year to students who rank high in exams.
  • Provincial or city award: funded by the local government, with a small quota.
  • Department or dean award: for continuing students, often from year 2.

None of these is guaranteed. Quotas are limited and amounts change from one intake to the next. Treat every figure here as a guide, and confirm the current amount in writing with the university.

How much do universities give? Examples from our directory

The table below uses the scholarship and tuition entries in our directory. Fees are per our directory. Confirm the current fee and scholarship with the university before you pay anything. The last column compares the award with one year of tuition so you can see the size of the saving.

UniversityAward (per our directory)Annual tuition (RMB)Rough share of one year
Chongqing Medical University15,000 RMB one-time freshman grant30,000About 50%, once
Tongji UniversityAbout 4,500 RMB one-time entry award45,00010%, once
Southwest Medical University6,000 RMB freshman award; 10,000 to 15,000 RMB yearly excellence award31,000About 19% once; 32% to 48% a year
Jilin University5,000 to 15,000 RMB yearly, top 70% of the class33,000About 15% to 45% a year
Nanjing Medical University5,000 to 8,500 RMB entrance award34,000About 15% to 25%
Jiangsu University10,000 RMB yearly presidential award (Type B), renewable34,000About 29% a year

Read the "once" and "a year" labels closely. A 15,000 RMB one-time grant is a 50% cut to year 1 only, not to the six-year bill. Over six years, a yearly 10,000 RMB award can matter more, but only if you keep earning it.

What the official pages say

Where we could reach official pages, they match the pattern above, with some limits.

  • Tongji School of Medicine states a one-off MBBS entry scholarship of CNY 4,500, equal to 10% of first-year tuition. You must receive the offer by 31 May (extended to 30 June in the notice) and register on the date in your admission notice. The same page lists a Dean Scholarship for second-year students onward (CNY 20,000, 10,000 or 5,000 by prize level) and a Presidential Scholarship from CNY 1,000 to 10,000.
  • Chongqing Medical University publishes a self-financed freshman scholarship of 15,000 RMB, covering the first year, with a quota of 30% of that year's enrolment. The 2026 guide mentions a clinical medicine programme but does not name MBBS, so ask the college directly whether it applies to you.

For Jiangsu University, the only official-style notices we found were old (a 2018 notice described a 10,000 CNY presidential award for the top 10% of a baseline exam). The 10,000 RMB figure in our directory is consistent with that, but the rules and the quota may have changed. Ask the Office of International Education for the current notice.

Can Pakistani students get a 50 percent tuition scholarship for MBBS?

Sometimes for one year, rarely for all six. The only half-tuition style figure in the examples above is the Chongqing grant, and it is a one-time payment tied to a quota. Some Chinese universities also run tiered entrance awards (full, half and quarter tuition) for a small share of students. Nanjing Medical University has listed such tiers in older notices, so treat them as a possibility to ask about, not a plan.

A fair way to budget: assume no scholarship. Then treat any award you receive as a bonus. Our total cost guide shows the full six-year picture with no awards included.

Which awards come from the city or province?

Local governments pay a second layer of awards to international students in their area. Examples in our directory:

  • Beijing Municipal Government Scholarship of 20,000 RMB a year, for international students at Beijing universities.
  • Dalian Government Scholarship of 8,000 RMB a year for MBBS students at Dalian Medical University.
  • Chongqing Mayor Scholarship of 25,000 RMB a year, for students with strong overall achievement.
  • Jasmine Jiangsu Scholarship at Jiangsu universities, up to 30,000 RMB in some listings.

These have small quotas and strict rules. The Jasmine Jiangsu Scholarship, for example, generally cannot be combined with another Chinese government scholarship, and applicants pay a refundable deposit. Public notices for it are mostly from earlier years, so check the current cycle with the university. Shanghai's government scholarship for bachelor's students is a smaller award (CNY 4,000 in the Tongji notice).

How do I know a scholarship offer is real?

Use these checks before you send a single rupee:

  1. The award must be named in your official admission letter or a university notice, with a stamp and an amount. A chat message or a screenshot is not proof.
  2. Look for the same award on the university's own website. If you cannot find it, ask the international office by email.
  3. Check the university's status. Check that the university is MOE-listed and confirm PMDC status on pmdc.pk and the school in the World Directory of Medical Schools at search.wdoms.org.
  4. Never pay a "scholarship processing fee", "seat reservation" or "document verification" fee to an agent. Tuition goes to the university account, not a personal one.
  5. Distrust the words "guaranteed", "100% free" and "no documents needed".

Real warnings exist. The China Scholarship Council warned in 2020 that fake Chinese Government Scholarship admission notices were being sent to students with requests for deposits. Jilin University has also publicly disowned an online advert for free MBBS places that it had not authorised. Read our guide on spotting a fake study-abroad consultant as well.

Titans Abroad does not charge a consultation or guidance fee, and we say that if any agent charges you for a government scholarship application, that is a scam.

Is there a free MBBS in China scholarship for Pakistanis?

We found no official source that offers a free, fully funded English-taught MBBS to Pakistani students as a standard route. The CSC question above is open, and it is competitive even for the programmes it does fund. Most Pakistani MBBS students in China pay their own way, then reduce the cost with university and city awards. Plan on that, and treat a full waiver as a pleasant surprise.

When should I apply for MBBS scholarships in China?

Most university awards need no separate application. You are assessed when you apply for admission, or after you enrol. That means your admission timing sets your scholarship chances:

  • Apply early. Quotas fill. Tongji, for instance, ties its entry award to getting an offer by 31 May.
  • Prepare your CSCA score, as many universities now ask for it, and some use it for scholarship decisions (see the CSCA guide).
  • Government CSC rounds for 2026/27 opened in February 2026, with decisions expected in July 2026. The 2027/28 dates were not published when we checked.
  • Merit awards usually open after your first exam results, often in October to December.

Our step-by-step application guide and the 2027 intake guide give the full admission timeline.

What about MDCAT and PMDC rules?

Since PM&DC public notice No. Exam-59/2026/350 (5 October 2026), MDCAT is not required for Pakistani students seeking admission to foreign medical institutions. Details are in our MDCAT notice explainer. You still need MDCAT for colleges inside Pakistan, and you still need to graduate from a PM&DC-recognised institution and pass the NRE to practise. Other May 2026 conditions are unconfirmed after the notice, so check pmdc.pk.

A scholarship does not change this. A cheap seat at an unrecognised university is a poor deal. Start from the list of MOE-listed universities in our complete MOE list and check eligibility in the eligibility guide.

A simple plan for university scholarships for MBBS in China

  1. Shortlist MOE-listed universities in the China directory.
  2. Ask each international office, in writing, which scholarships apply to MBBS students and what the 2027 amounts and quotas are.
  3. Get the answer on the admission letter or an official notice.
  4. Compare cost after scholarships, but budget without them.
  5. Pay only to the university's account, and keep every receipt.

If you want help comparing offers, you can apply through Titans Abroad. We do not charge a consultation fee.

Frequently asked questions

Does the CSC scholarship cover MBBS in China?

Sources conflict, and we found no official list that settles it. CSC runs on campuschina.org, and 2026/27 bachelor's applicants needed a CSCA score. Check whether your university's MBBS programme appears in the CSC programme search for that year.

If it does not appear, plan as a self-funded student.

Which Chinese universities give scholarships for MBBS?

Several do, per our directory, including Chongqing Medical University, Tongji University, Southwest Medical University, Jilin University, Nanjing Medical University and Jiangsu University. Amounts range from about 4,500 to 15,000 RMB. Rules and quotas change each intake, so confirm the current award with the university before you rely on it.

Can Pakistani students get 50 percent tuition scholarship for MBBS?

Only in limited cases. Chongqing Medical University lists a 15,000 RMB freshman grant on 30,000 RMB tuition, which is about half of year 1, paid once and limited by quota. Do not expect half tuition for all six years. Ask the university for written terms.

Is there a free MBBS in China scholarship for Pakistanis?

We found no official standard route for a fully free English-taught MBBS for Pakistanis. Most students pay tuition and reduce it with partial awards. Any agent promising a guaranteed free seat should be treated as a warning sign, whatever the university name attached.

How do I know a scholarship offer is real?

Ask for the award in writing on the official admission letter, then find the same award on the university's website or confirm it by email with the international office. Never pay processing or reservation fees to an agent. Pay tuition only to the university's official account.

When should I apply for MBBS scholarships in China?

Apply for admission early, because most university awards are decided from your admission file and quotas fill. Tongji, for example, ties its entry award to an offer by 31 May. Merit awards usually open after your first exam results. Check each university's notice for dates.

Does Titans Abroad charge for scholarship applications?

No. Titans Abroad does not charge consultation or guidance fees, and our help is free. We also say that any agent who charges you for a government scholarship application is running a scam. You pay the university's fees to the university only.

Can I combine a CSC place with a university scholarship?

Usually not. A full CSC award already covers tuition, hostel and a stipend, and rules often bar holding two government awards at once. Ask the university how its own awards interact with others before you accept.
