MBBS in Kyrgyzstan for Pakistani Students: Honest Guide 2026

MBBS in Kyrgyzstan for Pakistani students: the June 2026 accreditation result, PMDC recognition, fees and how Kazakhstan compares. Check before you pay.

MBBS in Kyrgyzstan for Pakistani students is the riskiest of the two Central Asian options right now. In June 2026 Kyrgyzstan ran a state accreditation review of its medical schools, and reports say only a small group passed in full while many were barred from new intake. Kazakhstan has had no comparable shake-up, but its medical universities are not a safe bet either unless you check each one against the PM&DC list. Recognition depends on the institution, not the country.

This guide explains what happened in Kyrgyzstan, what we could and could not verify, how fees compare, and how to check a Central Asian university before you pay a deposit. It is a neutral comparison. Titans Abroad focuses on China, Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan, so we do not place students in Kyrgyzstan or Kazakhstan.

Short answer for parents in a hurry

  • Do not pay any Kyrgyz or Kazakh university until you have checked its current status on pmdc.pk, on search.wdoms.org and with the host ministry.
  • Kyrgyzstan is in the middle of a clean-up. Reports from June to August 2026 say schools that failed state accreditation cannot enrol new students.
  • Kyrgyz tuition looks cheap, often quoted at roughly US$3,500 to US$6,000 a year by agencies. Cheap is not a reason to ignore recognition.
  • Kazakhstan fee quotes vary widely between sources, and we found no official PM&DC list entry for Kazakh schools in our research. Treat it as unverified until you see one.
  • MDCAT is no longer required for foreign admission, but the NRE and recognised-institution rules still apply when you come home to practise.

What happened with Kyrgyzstan medical school accreditation in 2026?

Kyrgyzstan had set 1 June 2026 as the deadline for its medical institutions to complete state accreditation. According to the Indian Embassy in Bishkek, which issued advisories on 29 April and 23 June 2026, the government did not extend that deadline. The advisories are published on the embassy site, and the text is worth reading in full because they are an official source.

Secondary reporting gives the following picture. Please treat the exact counts as unconfirmed until you see the ministry list.

Provisional7Global Admissions, June 2026
Barred from new international intake13Global Admissions, June 2026
Rule for schools without state accreditationNo new students; existing students graduate or are transferredAkchabar, 5 August 2026

Different outlets describe the numbers slightly differently, and one report says the full list of failed and provisional schools was published in an embassy advisory in July. We could not open that advisory during research. So the safest wording is this: reports say 4 of 24 reviewed schools received full accreditation and 13 were barred from new international intake. Confirm with the Kyrgyz Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Innovation or a foreign embassy advisory.

What the new rules say

Akchabar, a Kyrgyz news outlet, reported on 5 August 2026 that Cabinet amendments bar medical institutions without state accreditation from enrolling new students. Such an institution can only be allowed to graduate its current students that academic year. The rest must be transferred to other licensed schools before the new year. Only accredited institutions can issue state-recognised diplomas.

A separate Cabinet decree, reported by 24.kg, says foreign citizens can enrol only in medical universities with international programme accreditation held for at least three years from an agency recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). That decree is from November 2022, so it is an older rule that now sits on top of the new state review.

Why this matters to a Pakistani family

If you join a school that later loses its licence, you may be moved to another school, you may lose years, or your degree may not be accepted at home. Reports suggest transfers are not simple. One report says the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy expected about 1,500 students from closed schools, and that only Kyrgyz citizens were eligible to transfer there. If that is right, foreign students from closed schools may have fewer options. We could not confirm this from an official source.

Is MBBS in Kyrgyzstan recognised by PMDC?

There is no blanket answer. PM&DC recognises institutions, not countries. PM&DC has said that only graduates of PM&DC-recognised foreign institutions can get provisional registration and sit the National Registration Examination (NRE). It also says its list of recognised foreign institutions is provisional and reviewed from time to time.

There is a history here that families should know. Earlier PMC council minutes (2020) record a public warning about graduates from Kyrgyzstan, and a 24.kg report says a PMC blacklist at one point included 15 Kyrgyz universities and six Uzbek ones. We could not confirm the dates of those lists, and they may no longer be current. The point is not that every Kyrgyz school is excluded. The point is that you must check the specific school, on the current list, before you pay.

Also note that PM&DC and Kyrgyz delegations met in January 2025 to discuss registration criteria, admission standards for Pakistani students and accreditation protocols. Talks do not change your own school's status. Only the live PM&DC list does.

Is MBBS in Kazakhstan good for Pakistani students?

Kazakhstan is a different case. We found no 2026 shake-up comparable to the Kyrgyz review. English-medium MBBS is widely advertised by agencies for Kazakh universities such as Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. But almost everything online about MBBS in Kazakhstan for Pakistan comes from agencies, and those are for Indian students. We did not find a Kazakhstan-specific PM&DC recognition list in our research.

That gap matters. Before considering any Kazakh university, do four checks:

  1. Search the university on pmdc.pk and read the current recognised-institution list.
  2. Search it in the WDOMS directory (search.wdoms.org) and read the sponsor notes. ECFMG eligibility affects whether a graduate can sit US exams, and PM&DC has also linked NRE eligibility to ECFMG-recognised graduates.
  3. Ask the university in writing for its licence and accreditation documents and the language of instruction for each year.
  4. Ask the Pakistani embassy in Astana or HEC if you have doubts. HEC also publishes guidance on foreign institutions.

Agency blogs disagree on programme length, too. Some say five years plus a one-year internship, others say six years including internship. Get the exact structure from the university itself.

How much does MBBS cost in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan?

Fees below come from agency and consultancy pages, not official fee schedules. They disagree with each other. Treat them as rough ranges and confirm the current fee with the university.

ItemKyrgyzstan (agency estimates)Kazakhstan (agency estimates)
Annual tuitionAbout US$3,500 to US$6,000; one list shows about US$3,700 at one school and about US$5,000 at anotherQuotes range from about US$3,000 to US$8,000; specific schools quoted at about US$4,500 to US$6,500

Full courseEstimates of US$16,000 to US$33,000One agency estimate of about US$36,000 for six years at one school

These figures do not include flights, visa and registration, living costs, or the cost of repeating the NRE. They also come from sources that sell admissions, so they may be low.

Is Kyrgyzstan cheaper than China?

On paper, yes, sometimes. In our own directory, the cheapest MOE-listed China universities that are also listed as PMDC-approved in our directory show recurring annual totals from about US$3,700 (Beihua University and Dali University), per our directory from year 2, covering tuition, hostel, visa extension and insurance. Year 1 is higher because of one-time charges. Confirm the current fee with the university.

So Kyrgyz tuition quotes of US$3,500 to US$6,000 do not beat the cheapest Chinese options once you compare like with like. A cheaper school you cannot register with at home is not cheaper. For a full China breakdown, read our MBBS in China total cost guide, and the self-funded MBBS cost comparison.

Which Central Asian universities are on the PMDC list?

We will not name schools as recognised, because we could not verify a current list entry, and the list changes. What we can tell you is how to check it yourself:

  1. Open pmdc.pk and find the list of recognised foreign institutions.
  2. Look for the exact legal name of the school, not a nickname. Kyrgyz schools often share similar names.
  3. Check that the entry covers the programme you want (for example general medicine in English).
  4. Cross-check on search.wdoms.org.
  5. Screenshot both with the date. Keep them with your admission file.

Our guide on how to verify PMDC recognition was written for China, but the same steps work for any country.

Does MDCAT matter for Kyrgyzstan or Kazakhstan?

Under PM&DC public notice No. Exam-59/2026/350 (5 October 2026), MDCAT is not required for Pakistani students seeking admission to foreign medical institutions. That applies to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan the same as anywhere else. Read the details in our notice explainer.

What still applies when you come home: MDCAT for colleges inside Pakistan, the NEB assessment if you want to transfer into a Pakistani institution, the NRE to practise, and graduating from a PM&DC-recognised institution. Other conditions reported in May 2026 (such as an FSc percentage and srf.pmdc.pk registration) are unconfirmed after the October notice, so confirm them on pmdc.pk before you apply.

Kyrgyzstan or Georgia for MBBS?

Both are small, English-medium options, but the risk profile differs. In Kyrgyzstan, the regulator itself is cutting the sector. In Georgia, the schools in our directory are listed as PMDC-approved in our directory, though you still need to confirm on pmdc.pk and search.wdoms.org. NRE pass rates are also a warning for every country: the December 2025 session reported by The News showed eight countries, including Georgia, with zero passes, while China had 333 passes from 2,154 candidates (about 15.5%). No country is automatic.

Safety and student life in Bishkek

Bishkek is the main hub for foreign medical students. In May 2024, violence against foreign students, including Pakistanis, caused panic there, as Al Jazeera reported at the time. Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan officials later met to discuss student issues. Things may have calmed, but ask the university for the current arrangements and speak to current Pakistani students. Our safety guide for parents lists questions to ask any country.

A checklist before paying any Central Asian university

  1. Get the exact legal name and licence number of the school.
  2. Find the school on the PM&DC list and on WDOMS, with the date.
  3. For Kyrgyzstan, ask which accreditation outcome the school received in 2026 (full, provisional or barred) and ask for the ministry document.
  4. Ask in writing whether you will be admitted as an international student in the coming intake.
  5. Ask what happens if the school loses its licence. Get the answer in writing.
  6. Pay only to the university account, with a receipt, not to an individual.
  7. Read the NRE rules and the PMDC registration process before you decide.

If an agent tells you PMDC recognition is guaranteed, ask for the PM&DC page. Our guide to spotting a fake consultant covers the usual warning signs.

Where does Titans Abroad fit?

Titans Abroad does not place students in Kyrgyzstan or Kazakhstan. We focus on China, Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan, and we only recommend PMDC/PMC-approved universities (MOE-listed for China). Our help is free, with no consultation fee. If you want to compare those four countries against what you have read here, you can start an application inquiry.

Frequently asked questions

Is MBBS in Kyrgyzstan recognised by PMDC?

It depends on the school. PM&DC recognises institutions, not countries, and its list of recognised foreign institutions is provisional and reviewed from time to time. Check the exact school on pmdc.pk and search.wdoms.org, and keep dated screenshots. Past PMC warnings about Kyrgyz graduates mean you should not assume any school qualifies.

Is MBBS in Kazakhstan good for Pakistani students?

It can be, but we could not verify a Kazakhstan-specific PM&DC recognition list. Most online material is agency content written for Indian students. Check each university on pmdc.pk and WDOMS, ask for licence documents, and confirm the language of instruction and programme length in writing before you pay.

What happened with Kyrgyzstan medical school accreditation?

Kyrgyzstan set 1 June 2026 as the deadline for state accreditation. Reports say 24 schools were reviewed, 4 received full accreditation, 7 provisional and 13 were barred from new international intake. Cabinet changes reported in August say schools without accreditation cannot enrol new students. Confirm with the Kyrgyz ministry or an embassy advisory.

Is Kyrgyzstan cheaper than China?

Agency quotes of about US$3,500 to US$6,000 a year are in a similar range to the cheapest Chinese options. In our directory, the cheapest MOE-listed Chinese universities with PMDC flag true start at about US$3,700 a year from year 2 (per our directory). Confirm the current fee with the university. Recognition risk matters more than a small fee gap.

Which Central Asian universities are on the PMDC list?

We cannot give you a safe list because the PM&DC list is provisional and changes. Open pmdc.pk, search the exact school name and programme, then cross-check on search.wdoms.org. If the school is missing, ask the university or PM&DC why before you pay anything.

Kyrgyzstan or Georgia for MBBS?

Georgia carries less regulatory uncertainty at the moment, and the Georgian MBBS schools in our directory are listed as PMDC-approved in our directory. You must still confirm on pmdc.pk and WDOMS, and plan for the NRE. Kyrgyzstan is mid-review, so only consider a school that holds full accreditation and a PM&DC list entry.

Is MDCAT needed for MBBS in Kyrgyzstan or Kazakhstan?

No. Since PM&DC notice No. Exam-59/2026/350 of 5 October 2026, MDCAT is not required for admission to foreign medical institutions. You will still need to pass the NRE to practise in Pakistan and graduate from a PM&DC-recognised institution. Confirm other conditions on pmdc.pk.

Does Titans Abroad help with Kyrgyzstan?

No. We focus on China, Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan. We do not charge a consultation fee, and we only recommend PMDC/PMC-approved universities. If you are comparing countries, we can talk through those four and explain how they differ from Central Asia.

Bottom line on MBBS in Kyrgyzstan for Pakistani students

If you are still considering MBBS in Kyrgyzstan for Pakistani students, treat 2026 as a year to wait and verify, not to rush. Ask for the ministry accreditation result, the PM&DC list entry and the WDOMS entry for the exact school. If any of the three is missing, walk away. For Kazakhstan, the same rule applies, with even less public information. A degree you cannot register at home costs far more than the fee you saved.
