Australia has two very different kinds of scholarship for Pakistani students. The first is the government route, led by the Australia Awards, which are fully funded and aimed at people from developing countries. The second, and much larger, group is run by the universities themselves: research scholarships for PhD and research Master's candidates, plus tuition awards for coursework students that range from a partial fee cut to full cover.
We track 24 Australian scholarship guides on Titans Abroad. If you hold a strong bachelor's or master's degree and want to do research, Australia is one of the better places to look, because several big universities fund research students automatically once they are admitted. If you want a taught master's or a bachelor's degree, the picture is thinner. Most of those awards are partial, and the one fully funded government option for Pakistanis is closed until early 2027.
All 24 Australian scholarships at a glance
The table lists every scholarship we cover, with its funding type and the deadline as we last recorded it. Some names appear more than once because we keep separate guides for different listings of the same program. Where a deadline says it varies, check the official site before you plan around it.
The Australia Awards route for Pakistani applicants
For most Pakistani students who want a fully funded postgraduate degree in Australia without committing to research, this is the scholarship to aim for. Australia Awards Scholarships (Pakistan) are offered by the Australian Government to eligible Pakistani citizens for full-time postgraduate study at participating Australian universities. Our latest record says applications are closed and will reopen in early 2027, so the realistic target is that next round (full details).
We also keep two broader guides to the same program. The Australia Awards Scholarships global guide describes them as long-term development awards run by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) for undergraduate or postgraduate study, with deadlines that vary by country and typically fall between January and April (full details). The Australia Awards Scholarships overview covers the same fully funded awards for students from developing countries (full details). Read the Pakistan guide first, since the country-specific rules are the ones that apply to you, and use the other two for background.
Our view: if you are a working professional aiming for a coursework master's, use the months before the 2027 round to get your documents and references ready. A closed round is time you can use, and applicants who start early usually write better statements.
Fully funded research scholarships at Australian universities
This is where Australia is strongest for Pakistani students. The following awards are recorded as fully funded and are aimed at PhD and research Master's candidates. Several of them do not need a separate scholarship form at all, which saves effort and means your research proposal and academic record do the work.
Automatic consideration on admission
- Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships (MGRS): every graduate research applicant at the University of Melbourne is considered for full funding with no separate scholarship application. The main round closes around October 31, though course-specific deadlines vary (full details).
- Sydney International Scholarship (USYDIS): described as one of Australia's higher stipend rates for international research students, with automatic consideration on admission to a research degree at the University of Sydney. Deadlines fall around September 11 for periods 1-2 or December 18 for periods 3-4 (full details).
- UQ Graduate School Scholarship (UQGSS/RTP): the University of Queensland's main research scholarship, with rounds closing around August 31 and October 19 (full details).
Research scholarships with set rounds
- Monash University Research Scholarships: up to four funding rounds a year, which gives one of the more flexible timelines. International Round 1 closes around March 31 and Round 3 around August 31 (full details).
- Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarship (MQRES/iMQRES): funds PhD and Master of Research candidates. The international round (iMQRES) runs to around July 31, and you generally need a confirmed supervisor before applying (full details).
- ANU College Research Scholarships Postgraduate (Australia): research scholarships at The Australian National University for Master of Philosophy and PhD programs. The deadline varies, so confirm it on the official site (full details).
- Murdoch University RTP Scholarships 2027: fully funded Research Training Program awards at Murdoch University for research higher degrees. Deadline varies (full details).
If you are choosing between these, start with Melbourne, Sydney and Queensland, because the automatic consideration means one strong admission application covers both the place and the funding. Monash is a good second line because its multiple rounds give you more than one chance in a year. Macquarie suits applicants who have already been in touch with a supervisor.
University awards with full or partial funding
These awards are recorded as "Full / Partial". In practice that usually means a mix of programs under one name, from partial tuition waivers to fully funded research places. Read each guide to see which stream fits your level.
Research-focused options
- University of Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships: support for Master's by research and PhD students at the University of Melbourne. Deadline varies (full details).
- Murdoch University RTP Scholarships 2027 in Australia: Research Training Program support for postgraduate research candidates at Murdoch. Deadline varies (full details).
- Australian National University (ANU) International Scholarships: a range of ANU awards from tuition fee waivers to research stipends for postgraduate study. Listed as open, deadline varies (full details).
Undergraduate and coursework options
- Bond University Scholarship Australia: two streams. The International Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship gives a 50-100% tuition waiver plus a flight subsidy and monthly and medical allowances, while the Research Training Program covers full tuition, a living stipend and overseas health insurance for Master's and PhD students. The last deadline we recorded was October 16, 2025 for the January 2026 semester, so check the official site for the next cycle (full details).
- Curtin University Scholarships: more than 7 million dollars a year across over 1,000 scholarships, covering merit and needs-based awards and relocation help for undergraduate, postgraduate and research students. Deadline varies (full details).
- University of Adelaide International Scholarships: undergraduate, postgraduate and research awards, most of which assess you automatically when you apply for an eligible degree (full details).
- University of Western Australia International Scholarships: support across academic excellence, equity, global experience and leadership categories. Listed as open, deadline varies (full details).
- Monash University International Scholarships: several Monash programs for international students at different levels, each with its own deadline (full details).
- University of Queensland International Scholarships: UQ runs these through a central portal, and programs are archived 30 days after their deadlines and republished when a new cycle starts. If you cannot find one, it may simply be between cycles (full details).
- University of Sydney International Scholarships: a range of University of Sydney awards, though our source link did not show specific program details at the time we checked (full details).
Griffith University Vice Chancellor's International Scholarship
We have two guides here. The Griffith University Vice Chancellor's International Scholarship 2026 guide covers a listing for Masters and postgraduate study that showed 23 days remaining at the time it was listed, so treat that deadline as approximate and check Griffith directly (full details). The older Griffith University Vice Chancellor's International Scholarship guide notes that the official page returned a 404 error when we checked, so confirm the scholarship is active on the university website before you rely on it (full details).
The Western Australian partial award and one program to skip
The Western Australian Premier's University Scholarship is a state government award that gives a one-off AUD $50,000 tuition contribution to high-achieving, first-time international postgraduate students starting a full-time course at one of five WA universities. It does not cover living costs, so you need your own funds for rent and daily expenses. Deadlines vary by university, with applications typically opening around March and closing by late May for a semester 1 start (full details). It pairs well with a UWA or Curtin offer if you can show the rest of your funding.
The Australia Endeavour Leadership Programme was a government scholarship for international students, but the official source indicates the program is no longer active at the address we had. We keep the guide for reference. Do not build your plan around it (full details).
How to choose between Australian scholarships
Start with your level and goal. A Pakistani student with a research proposal and a good academic record should apply for admission to research degrees at Melbourne, Sydney or Queensland, where the funding decision comes with the admission. Add Monash for its extra rounds and Macquarie if you have a supervisor lined up.
For a coursework master's, the Australia Awards for Pakistan is the only fully funded government route in this list, and it reopens in early 2027. Until then, the university awards from ANU, Adelaide, Curtin, UWA and Monash, plus the Western Australian Premier's scholarship, are worth combining, but expect partial funding and plan your finances for the rest.
For a bachelor's degree, Bond's undergraduate excellence stream is the clearest option here, with a tuition waiver of 50-100% and allowances. Curtin and Adelaide also list undergraduate awards.
Getting your documents ready for Australian applications
Research scholarships at Australian universities mostly judge you through your admission file, so the documents carry more weight than any scholarship essay. Prepare these early:
- Degrees and transcripts, attested and ready to upload well before the deadline.
- An English test score that meets your chosen university's requirement.
- A research proposal for PhD and research Master's applications, ideally discussed with a potential supervisor, which Macquarie generally expects.
- A CV that lists publications, research work and job experience clearly.
- Referees who know your academic or professional work and will respond on time.
- For the Australia Awards, evidence of your work and a statement that links your study plan to Pakistan's development.
Our documents checklist for international scholarships goes through each item in detail, and the scholarships guide for Pakistani students covers how to plan applications across several countries.
Frequently asked questions
Are the Australia Awards open to Pakistani students right now?
Not according to our latest record. The Pakistan round is closed and is expected to reopen in early 2027. The awards are fully funded and cover full-time postgraduate study at participating Australian universities.
Which Australian scholarships do not need a separate application?
The Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships, the Sydney International Scholarship (USYDIS) and the UQ Graduate School Scholarship all consider you automatically when you apply for a research degree. Most University of Adelaide international scholarships also assess applicants automatically when they apply for an eligible degree.
Is there a fully funded option for a bachelor's degree in Australia?
Bond University's International Undergraduate Excellence Scholarship gives a 50-100% tuition waiver with a flight subsidy and monthly and medical allowances. The global Australia Awards guide also mentions undergraduate study. Most other awards in this list are for postgraduate students.
How much is the Western Australian Premier's University Scholarship worth?
It is a one-off AUD $50,000 tuition contribution for first-time international postgraduate students starting a full-time course at one of five WA universities. It is partial funding, so you will need other money for living costs.
Is the Endeavour Leadership Programme still running?
The official source indicates it is no longer active. Look at the Australia Awards or university research scholarships instead.
