MBBS in Azerbaijan fees for Pakistani students on our university pages range from about $3,500 per year (tuition plus hostel) at Nakhchivan State University to about $8,600 per year at Khazar University. Over six years that is roughly $23,750 at Nakhchivan and $47,000 to $52,000 at the Baku options, before flights, insurance and daily living. These are the numbers our team keeps for each university. They are not a quote, and you must confirm them with the university in writing.
This guide explains where the money goes, how Baku and Nakhchivan differ, what visa and residence costs to expect, and what you should check before paying anyone. It does not repeat the full university guides. Those are linked where they matter.
How much does MBBS in Azerbaijan cost for Pakistani students?
Azerbaijan is one of the cheaper MBBS options, but the price depends heavily on the city and university. The three universities we list for Pakistani students are Nakhchivan State University (NSU), Azerbaijan Medical University (AMU) in Baku and Khazar University in Baku. The programme is six years, including a final-year internship, and it is taught in English for international students.
The table below uses the fee tables on our university pages. Amounts are in US dollars. Hostel is included in the totals shown.
| University | Tuition per year | Hostel per year | Year 1 total | Later years | Six-year total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| NSU, Nakhchivan | $2,500 (year 1: $3,500) | $1,000 | $6,250 | $3,500 | about $23,750 |
| AMU, Baku | $6,500 | $1,200 | $8,200 | $7,800 | about $47,200 |
| Khazar, Baku | $7,000 | $1,500 | $9,000 | $8,600 | about $52,000 |
For the full detail on each, see our Azerbaijan MBBS hub and the Azerbaijan university directory.
Converting to rupees
Fees are quoted in dollars, so your rupee cost moves with the exchange rate. Multiply each figure by the rate on the day you pay, and expect bank or exchange-house charges on top. A six-year plan should leave room for the rupee losing value over time, so do not budget at today's rate only.
What is the difference between NSU, AMU and Khazar fees?
NSU uses a semester-based structure. The first semester is an all-in package of $4,500 that covers tuition, hostel, registration, the residence card, a medical examination, liaison and airport pickup. After that, you pay $1,750 per semester for tuition and hostel. There is also a one-time $160 for admission processing, document translation and the e-visa.
AMU and Khazar charge annually. AMU lists tuition of about $6,500 and hostel of about $1,200. Khazar lists tuition of about $7,000 and hostel of about $1,500. Both add roughly $400 to $500 in year one for registration, residence card and medical examination.

Why published fees may not match
Fee figures for Azerbaijan are inconsistent across the web, and some of the differences are large. For example, a search of public sources found an NSU fee schedule on the university's own site listing 5,000 AZN per year for international medicine students, with the note that it applies to students admitted after 1 March 2023. A third-party listing converts that to about $3,000. That is a different structure from the package on our pages, and we could not confirm which one applies to your intake.
Similarly, an undated fee notice posted on an Azerbaijani embassy site for AMU lists $3,500 per year for medicine and $500 per year for a shared hostel room, well below the $6,500 and $1,200 on our pages. We could not find AMU's own current fee page. The gap may come from different tracks (Azerbaijani-language, English, or agency packages) or from old data.
The practical lesson is simple. Ask the university's international office for a written fee schedule for your exact intake, and ask whether the amount is paid to the university or to an intermediary. If a figure is far lower than everyone else's, ask what it excludes.
What other costs should you add?
Tuition and hostel are only part of the bill. The extra costs on our pages are small individually, but they repeat every year.
| Cost | Amount on our pages | When |
|---|---|---|
| Admission, translation and e-visa (NSU) | $160, non-refundable | With step 1 documents |
| Registration and residence card, year 1 (AMU, Khazar) | about $400 to $500 | On arrival |
| Annual medical examination | $20 to $50 | Every year |
| Annual residence card renewal | $40 to $60 | Every year |
| Medical insurance | about $120 per year | Optional, recommended |
| Flights | Your own cost | Each trip home |
Do not forget document costs in Pakistan. Your Matric and FSc certificates need board, IBCC and Foreign Office attestation, and many documents need translation into Azerbaijani. Our guides on IBCC attestation and the MOFA attestation process explain the steps.
What is the cost of living in Baku vs Nakhchivan?
Nakhchivan is a small city of about 100,000 people. Our NSU page puts living costs at roughly $200 to $350 a month, with local meals at $2 to $5 and off-campus shared rooms from about $80 to $100 a month from year two. Baku is a capital of over two million people and our AMU and Khazar pages put a student budget at about $350 to $500 a month, including accommodation.
Baku can cost more than that if you rent alone. Expat price lists from 2026 give one-bedroom rents of roughly 550 to 900 AZN a month, depending on whether the flat is inside or outside the centre. A student sharing a flat or using a hostel will pay much less, but do not plan on a central one-bedroom.
Here is a rough six-year picture of living costs, using the monthly ranges on our pages over twelve months a year:
| City | Monthly range | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| Nakhchivan | $200 to $350 | $2,400 to $4,200 |
| Baku | $350 to $500 | $4,200 to $6,000 |
Add this to the tuition and hostel table above to compare. For example, NSU at $3,500 plus up to $4,200 living is about $7,700 a year, while AMU at $7,800 plus up to $6,000 living is about $13,800. Some of the Baku range already covers accommodation, so treat these as upper estimates, not a promise.
What does the visa and residence permit cost?
Students normally enter on a visa arranged after the university admits them. The Azerbaijani embassy in The Hague lists a standard e-visa fee of $20 (issued in about three working days) and an urgent fee of $50. Baku State University says admitted students enter on a student visa through the ASAN Viza system, with a $20 state fee and a stay of up to 30 days. These are not the same page or the same rules, so check evisa.gov.az for your nationality and purpose.
Once you arrive, the university helps you register for a Temporary Residence Card. The State Migration Service has published a state fee of 40 manats for full-time students for up to one year, but that post is undated. Our pages list the card at $40 to $60 a year, which includes processing. If you are refused, our guide on student visa rejection reasons covers the usual causes.
How much proof of funds do you need?
We could not find a single official proof-of-funds amount that applies to Pakistani MBBS applicants for Azerbaijan. Requirements vary by university and by what the visa office asks for. Ask the university in writing what it needs. Then read our guide on bank statements and proof of funds before you move money around, because a large deposit made just before applying can look worse than steady savings.
Is MBBS in Azerbaijan recognised in Pakistan?
This is the question to settle before you pay a single dollar. Our university pages describe NSU, AMU and Khazar as WHO recognised and ECFMG listed, and our data does not mark any of them as approved by PM&DC. The Higher Education Commission also tells students in its own scholarship FAQ that confirming accreditation with the relevant council, such as the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, is the student's responsibility.
What this means in practice:
- Check the current PM&DC notices on pmdc.pk, because lists and rules change.
- Search the university in the World Directory of Medical Schools. We could not find an Azerbaijan Medical University listing through public search, so confirm it yourself.
- Remember that foreign graduates must pass the PM&DC National Registration Examination before registration. PM&DC has rescheduled the 2026 NRE Step-I to 8 November, so dates move.
- MDCAT is not required for admission abroad since 5 October 2026, as our report on the PM&DC notice explains. The NRE and PM&DC recognition still apply. The earlier May 2026 conditions on FSc 60 percent, online registration and training are unconfirmed in the October notice, so check them with PM&DC at pmdc.pk before enrolling.
- Read our explainers on PM&DC registration after a foreign MBBS and whether MDCAT is required.
Be careful with any agent who says "PMDC approved" without showing you the current notice or list entry. Ask for the page, not a promise.
One caution about Khazar University
Our Khazar page lists an English-medium MD programme. When we searched the university's public website for this post, we found engineering, economics, humanities and a new veterinary programme, but no medical programme. That does not prove it does not exist, but it means you should ask Khazar's international office directly whether it enrols international MD students for your intake and under which licence.
Azerbaijan vs Georgia: which is cheaper?
Georgian universities on our pages list annual fees from about $2,000 to $8,000, with many between $2,750 and $4,500. That means Baku's AMU and Khazar are generally more expensive than most Georgian options, while NSU is competitive. Cost is only one factor. Recognition status, hostel quality, travel routes and where you will feel comfortable matter as much. We compare these in Azerbaijan vs Georgia for MBBS.
How to budget for six years
A sensible plan is simple. Take the six-year tuition and hostel total, add $1,000 to $1,500 for six years of medical exams, residence cards and insurance, add living costs for your chosen city, and add a flight home each year. Then add a buffer of 10 to 15 percent for exchange-rate moves and repeat exams. Our guide on self-funded MBBS abroad shows how this compares across countries.
Ask three questions before paying:
- Is this fee fixed for six years, or can it rise?
- Is the money paid to the university account or to a third party?
- What is refundable if my visa is refused or I do not join?
Is safety a concern?
Our pages describe both Baku and Nakhchivan as safe student cities. Official travel advisories are more cautious. In spring 2026 the US advised reconsidering travel to Azerbaijan because of regional conflict and terrorism risk, and mentioned a drone strike on Nakhchivan airport in March. The UK and Canada exclude most of the country from their strongest warnings but flag the Armenian border. Read the current UK travel advice for Azerbaijan and your own government's advice, and ask the university how students were affected by recent flight disruptions. Parents of daughters can also read our safety guide for parents.
How Titans Abroad can help
Titans Abroad does not charge a consultation fee. We shortlist universities, get the offer letter, and help with attestation, visa preparation and pre-departure briefing. We only recommend universities that are approved for Pakistani students, and we will tell you if a programme is not right for you. If a university's recognition status is unclear, we will say so rather than hide it. You can start an application and we reply within 24 hours.
Which option should you pick?
If budget is the main limit and your family is comfortable with a small, quiet city, NSU has the lowest fees on our pages. If you want a capital-city environment and a larger international community, AMU and Khazar cost more. Either way, MBBS in Azerbaijan fees for Pakistani students are only half the decision. Confirm the written fee schedule, the recognition position and the total six-year cost before you pay a deposit.
Frequently asked questions
How much is MBBS in Azerbaijan for Pakistani students?
On our university pages, tuition plus hostel runs from about $3,500 a year at Nakhchivan State University to about $8,600 a year at Khazar University. The six-year total, including first-year admin costs, is roughly $23,750 at NSU and $47,000 to $52,000 at the Baku options. Flights, insurance and daily living are extra, and every figure must be confirmed with the university.
Which Azerbaijan medical university is cheapest?
Nakhchivan State University has the lowest fees on our pages, at about $1,750 per semester for tuition and hostel after a larger first-semester package. Azerbaijan Medical University in Baku is the middle option and Khazar is the highest. Cheapest on paper is not always cheapest in practice, so compare first-year totals, hostel terms and what happens to fees if you repeat a year.
Is MBBS in Azerbaijan recognised in Pakistan?
Do not assume it. Our university pages list NSU, AMU and Khazar as WHO recognised and ECFMG listed, but none is marked as approved on the PM&DC list. Foreign graduates in Pakistan must also pass the PM&DC National Registration Examination. Check the current PM&DC notices and the WDOMS directory for your chosen university before you pay any fee.
What is the cost of living in Baku?
Our Baku university pages put a typical student budget at about $350 to $500 a month, covering accommodation, food, transport and personal costs. Rents in the city centre are higher, and a one-bedroom flat can cost far more than a shared room. Halal food is easy to find. Your actual spending depends on whether you live in a hostel, share a flat or live alone.
Is Azerbaijan cheaper than Georgia?
Not always. Several Georgian universities on our pages list annual fees between about $2,000 and $4,500, which overlaps with or undercuts the Baku options. Nakhchivan State University is cheaper than most Georgian options after year one. The better question is total cost, recognition status and city fit, which our Azerbaijan versus Georgia comparison covers in detail.
Do I need Azerbaijani language?
Teaching for international medical students is in English at the universities on our pages, and no IELTS is listed as required. You will still need basic Azerbaijani, or Russian, for patient contact in the clinical years, shops and offices. The universities offer language classes. Start learning early, because clinical rotations are much easier when you can talk to patients directly.
How do I get an Azerbaijan student visa?
After the university admits you, it arranges an invitation, and you apply for an ASAN or e-visa through the official evisa.gov.az portal. The embassy page lists a standard e-visa fee of $20 and an urgent fee of $50, but student rules can differ. After arrival, the university helps you register for a Temporary Residence Card. Check current terms before paying any agent for visa work.
Is Azerbaijan safe for students?
Baku and Nakhchivan are described as safe cities for students on our pages, but government travel advisories are more cautious. In spring 2026, the US advised reconsidering travel to Azerbaijan, citing regional conflict, and the UK and Canada excluded most areas but advised caution near the Armenian border. Read your own government's advisory and ask the university about flight options before booking.
