About the Schwarzman Scholars Masterโs Program at Tsinghua University
Schwarzman Scholars is a one-year, fully funded masterโs degree program in global affairs hosted at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Established to address the geopolitical realities of the 21st century, the program brings together high-caliber individuals from around the world to study China's expanding role in global trends, business, and politics.
The academic experience centers on a Master of Global Affairs degree, featuring a curriculum designed by leading international faculty. Scholars participate in intensive coursework, leadership seminars, and in-country study tours intended to build cross-cultural competencies and foster a lasting international professional network.
Admissions operate through two distinct tracks depending on citizenship. Applicants from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao apply between January and May, while U.S. and global applicants submit materials between April and September. Selection prioritizes academic excellence, leadership potential, and personal character evaluated through a holistic review of essays, transcripts, and recommendations.
Financial coverage is comprehensive, removing tuition and living barriers for accepted candidates. The program provides all instructional costs, housing and meals within the dedicated Schwarzman College residential facility, travel to and from Beijing at the start and end of the academic year, study tour expenses, required books, a Lenovo laptop, health insurance, and a personal living stipend.
Candidates undergo a rigorous multistage evaluation process. After initial application screening, shortlisted candidates are invited to regional panel interviews conducted by senior figures from politics, business, and academia. Final cohorts begin their orientation in late August and complete requirements by graduation the following July.
