HKUST Academic Admissions Scholarships for International Qualification Holders

The most valuable tier covers full tuition fees plus a living allowance of up to HK$60,000 per academic year, renewable for the normative duration of the programme subject to satisfactory academic performance. Below that sit partial-tuition and one-off awards for strong but not top-of-cohort applicants. HKUST separately runs a Scholarship Scheme for International/Asian Olympiad Medalists, under which gold medalists in recognised international or Asian olympiads receive full tuition plus the HK$60,000 living allowance, and silver medalists receive full tuition, both without a separate application.

For students whose profile goes beyond grades, HKUST also runs application-based awards layered on top of the automatic merit scholarships: the Future Leaders Award, aimed at non-local students who have shown resilience overcoming significant challenges and have potential for exceptional financial need, and the Beyond Academic Admissions Scholarship (BAAS) for applicants with a strong non-academic track record. These require a separate written application, including a statement of circumstance, a declaration on family finances (for need-based consideration), and a reference letter.

HKUST runs its undergraduate admissions in rounds - an early round, a main round, and a late round - each with its own deadline, and scholarship consideration follows the same rounds. Because scholarship review is bundled into standard admission processing, an applicant's main task is simply to submit the strongest possible academic file (and, where relevant, the Future Leaders Award or BAAS application) by the relevant round's deadline.
