HKU Belt and Road Scholarship

Selection goes beyond grades: HKU's admissions panel weighs the applicant's academic performance alongside contributions to their school or community, demonstrated leadership and communication ability, and a genuine, well-articulated interest in integrating into and contributing to Hong Kong society during and after their studies. Applicants pursuing dual or joint degree programmes are excluded, and the scholarship is generally awarded to new entrants rather than continuing students, so it needs to be applied for at the same time as the admission application itself.

Successful recipients have their non-local tuition fee - normally one of the largest costs for an international student in Hong Kong - covered up to the full amount for the duration of their programme, subject to maintaining satisfactory academic standing. Because the award is tied to the student's admission file rather than issued separately, HKU reviews Belt and Road Scholarship eligibility as part of the standard application process once the required supplementary materials are submitted.
