CUHK Non-Local Student Admission Scholarships

Beyond the government-funded award, CUHK layers on its own institutional scholarships. The Non-Academic Excellence Scholarship, aimed specifically at non-local students who excel outside the classroom - in music, art, science competitions, or sport - is worth between HK$50,000 and HK$214,000, making it one of the largest need-independent awards CUHK offers. The university-wide Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships for Excellence add eight further non-renewable HK$50,000 awards each year to the most outstanding freshmen across all admission channels and residency types, decided after first-term results are in.

Because these awards stack from a base entrance scholarship (as low as HK$5,000) up to full tuition coverage with an annual allowance of up to HK$66,000, the actual value a given non-local student receives depends on their overall academic and non-academic profile at the point of admission. Students from Belt and Road Initiative countries have an additional, separate route: the Belt and Road Scholarship, which can cover full tuition and is granted on university nomination rather than open application.

All of these scholarships are decided by CUHK itself as part of the standard admission review - applicants do not submit scholarship forms, write scholarship essays, or pay any scholarship-specific fee. Recipients are simply notified individually once results are finalised, generally alongside or shortly after the admission offer.
