About the World in Serbia Scholarship
World in Serbia (Svet u Srbiji) is a national scholarship initiative of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, run by the Ministry of Education in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aimed at building educational and diplomatic ties with countries that are members or observers of the Non-Aligned Movement across Africa, Asia, and Central and South America. It is one of the largest state-funded inbound scholarship schemes in the Western Balkans, with several hundred scholarship holders from well over a hundred countries currently studying in Serbia under the programme.
The scholarship covers free tuition at accredited state-founded Serbian universities across academic Bachelor's, integrated studies, professional studies, Master's, specialization, and Doctoral levels, in virtually any field offered by participating institutions. Recipients are placed in student dormitories in major university cities - Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, and Kragujevac - and receive standard student-center meal provisions alongside their studies.
Beyond tuition and housing, recipients receive a monthly financial allowance of roughly 18,000 Serbian dinars (approximately EUR 150), full health insurance coverage for the duration of study, and a free intensive Serbian language course before their academic programme begins, since most instruction is delivered in Serbian. The Ministry also assists with the translation and nostrification (official recognition) of foreign academic diplomas, which is a meaningful practical benefit for students coming from non-European education systems.
Because the scholarship is administered through consular channels, Pakistani and other eligible applicants apply through the competent institution designated in their home country (often the relevant ministry of education or a nominated university) rather than directly to Serbia, and the nominated shortlist is then forwarded to the Serbian Embassy for final processing.
