USTC Fellowship (University of Science and Technology of China)

For undergraduate applicants, the USTC Fellowship is offered in two tiers. Level A covers a full tuition waiver, comprehensive medical insurance, a monthly stipend of roughly 2,500 RMB, and an accommodation subsidy. Level B covers a tuition waiver only. Applicants may apply for either or both tiers, but only one award can ultimately be granted per student.

At the graduate level, USTC extends a similar fellowship structure to Master's and PhD applicants, with monthly stipends reported up to roughly 7,000 RMB depending on degree level and program, alongside tuition waivers, insurance, and housing support, making it a genuinely fully-funded pathway for many recipients rather than a partial-tuition-only award.

Eligibility follows standard international scholarship norms in China: applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid passport, in good health, and typically under 30 for undergraduate, 35 for Master's, and 40 for PhD applicants. Programs primarily taught in Chinese require HSK Level 5 or above (with exemptions for native speakers or those schooled in Chinese-medium institutions), and applicants cannot simultaneously hold another Chinese government or institutional scholarship for the same year.

Because USTC is smaller and more specialized than comprehensive universities like Peking or Tsinghua, its own fellowship program is a particularly strong option for students specifically targeting the physical sciences, engineering, or computer science, where USTC's research output and international rankings are exceptionally strong relative to its size.
