The Shanghai Jiao Tong University Scholarship (SJTUS) is an internally funded award offered by SJTU itself, alongside the government-run Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) and Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS) that are also open to SJTU applicants. It is one of several funding routes the university uses to compete for top international graduate talent, particularly in engineering, medicine, and business, where SJTU consistently ranks among mainland China's strongest institutions.
SJTUS is available for both Master's and Doctoral programs. For Master's students, the award includes a monthly stipend, a standard tuition waiver, group comprehensive medical insurance valid in China, and a subsidy covering part of accommodation costs. Doctoral students receive an equivalent package structured for the longer PhD duration, with a correspondingly higher monthly stipend.
Eligibility requires that Master's applicants hold a relevant undergraduate degree and be under 35 years old, while PhD applicants must hold a relevant Master's degree and be under 40. Programs taught in Chinese require an HSK Level 4 certificate or higher, while English-taught programs require IELTS, TOEFL, or an equivalent recognized test score instead.
