About the Schwarzman Scholars Master's Program at Tsinghua University
Schwarzman Scholars is a fully funded one-year master's program in global affairs hosted at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Established to respond to the geopolitical landscape of the twenty-first century, the program focuses on leadership development and deepens students' knowledge of China's role in global trends across business, politics, and society.
The academic experience centers on a rigorous Master of Global Affairs degree designed by leading academics and faculty. Scholars participate in coursework, study tours, and immersive leadership experiences that create an international network of high-caliber leaders, academics, and innovators who serve as a bridge between China and the rest of the world.
The program recruits globally with specific geographic targets: forty percent of each cohort comes from the United States, twenty percent from China, and forty percent from the rest of the world. Admissions operate through two main tracks depending on citizenship, with applicants from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao applying between January and May, and U.S. and global applicants applying between April and September.
Financial coverage is comprehensive, removing economic barriers for selected participants. The program covers all tuition and fees, room and board, travel to and from Beijing at the beginning and end of the academic year, in-country study tours, required course books and supplies, a Lenovo laptop, health insurance, and a personal stipend.
Candidates go through a rigorous selection process that evaluates academic excellence and leadership potential through essays, transcripts, video introductions, and recommendation letters. Semifinalists are invited to in-person interviews conducted by panels of distinguished senior figures from politics, business, universities, and non-profit sectors.
