About the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI)

The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship is a competitive initiative that allows undergraduate students from participating countries and regions to access Canada's research landscape. Top-ranked applicants participate in a 12-week research internship between May and October of each year under the supervision of Canadian academic institution faculty members.

The program is open to undergraduate students in a variety of academic disciplines, ranging from science, engineering, and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences. Internships take place at over 70 academic institutions across Canada, combining academic research with professional skills development courses and social activities.

The award is co-funded by Mitacs and its international partners. Funding covers round-trip airfare, airport transportation in Canada, a housing stipend, student enrollment fees, food and incidentals, emergency health insurance, and support from student mentors on campus.

Applicants must meet general criteria such as being at least 18 years of age, enrolled full-time in an eligible undergraduate or combined program, having completed at least two years of study, and applying to a minimum of three and a maximum of ten projects across at least three different Canadian provinces.

Eligibility Requirements

Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study or be enrolled in the second year of the current program
Have one to three semesters remaining in the program as of fall 2027

Apply to a minimum of three and a maximum of ten projects from at least three different Canadian provinces
Be fluent in the oral and written language of the project
Not have been awarded a Globalink Research Internship project in the past
