Most scholarship lists for Pakistani students skip the Balkans entirely. That is a pity, because RIT Kosovo has a funding route that is short on paperwork, open to any nationality, and attached to a degree issued by the Rochester Institute of Technology in the United States. The President's Partial Scholarship cuts annual tuition by 20% to 50% for incoming freshmen. It is partial, it covers tuition only, and it rewards people who apply early. If those three things work for you, read on. You can also check the full scholarship details on our listing.

A US degree from a campus in Pristina

RIT Kosovo is known locally as A.U.K. (American University in Kosovo). It is the Pristina campus of the Rochester Institute of Technology, a US university founded in 1829. The Kosovo campus opened in 2002 in the Germia district of Pristina, and every course is taught in English.

The degree is the main reason to look at this place. Degrees are conferred through RIT's School of Individualized Study in the United States. The programs are accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in the US, licensed by Kosovo's Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and recognized by the Kosovo Accreditation Agency. So you end up with a US-accredited bachelor's while paying a fraction of what a comparable RIT program in the United States would cost.

The campus is small. Roughly 500 students study there, from 18 nationalities. If you want a big-university experience with huge lecture halls and dozens of societies, this is the wrong choice. If you prefer a compact campus where staff know your name, it could suit you well.

How far a 20% to 50% discount actually goes

For the 2026-2027 year, RIT Kosovo lists annual tuition at roughly €6,840 to €7,140. The exact figure depends on which payment deadline you meet. That tuition already includes technology fees and a laptop, which is a nice touch you will not find at many universities.

The scholarship is applied to that tuition. Where you land within the 20% to 50% band depends on your academic profile and the financial need you show. The university does not publish a formula, so do not assume you will get the top end. Plan your budget around the lower percentage and treat anything above it as a bonus.

What it does not cover matters just as much. There is nothing here for housing, food, transport or other living costs in Pristina. Pristina is a low-cost capital compared with Western Europe, but low-cost is not free. You will need your own money for rent and daily life, and your family should know that before you commit.

On renewal: the award can be considered for renewal in later years, alongside other current-student scholarships such as GPA-based awards, if you keep up academic standards. Read that carefully. It says "eligible for renewal consideration", not "guaranteed for four years". Confirm the renewal conditions with the university before you build a four-year budget on it.

Why Pakistani students can apply

RIT Kosovo has other named awards that are restricted, such as the Board of Trustees Regional Scholarship for Kosovo regions and the Campus Diversity Scholarship for specific neighboring countries. The President's Partial Scholarship is different. It is open to freshman applicants of any nationality, which means Pakistani students can apply on the same footing as anyone else.

Programs within reach include Computing and Information Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, and the Individualized/Applied Arts and Science track. Your choice of major is limited to what the campus offers, so check the list on the RIT Kosovo admissions page before you get attached to the idea.

The test scores you need to clear

Selection looks at four things together: your high school GPA, your entrance exam or SAT/ACT result, your English score, and documented financial need. The minimum scores for standard admission are:

  • English: TOEFL iBT 68 or higher, or IELTS 6.5 or higher
  • Math: RIT Kosovo's own math exam at 60 or higher, SAT at 1090 or higher, or ACT at 21 or higher

There is also a conditional admission route with lower thresholds. For English, that is TOEFL iBT 52 or IELTS 4.5. For math, the source mentions lower thresholds but does not list them, so ask the admissions office. You can reach them at admissions@auk.org. Conditional admission is useful if your English is still developing, but remember that the scholarship weighs merit. A conditional offer is unlikely to put you near the 50% end.

For a Pakistani FSc or A-level student, the math requirement is usually the easier part. The SAT is optional in the sense that RIT Kosovo has its own math exam, but a strong SAT or ACT score gives the selectors a familiar benchmark and can strengthen your case.

Paperwork for your freshman file

The application is a standard freshman admissions file with financial need documentation added on top. You will need:

  1. The completed online application form
  2. An admissions essay
  3. Two letters of recommendation
  4. Your high school diploma and academic transcripts or certificates
  5. A copy of a valid passport or national ID
  6. Your TOEFL or IELTS score report
  7. Your math exam, SAT or ACT score report
  8. Financial need documentation, for scholarship consideration

The financial need part is where Pakistani applicants often go thin. A single line saying "my family cannot afford it" will not carry much weight. Show the reality with income documents and a clear explanation. Our guide to bank statements and proof of funds is useful here, because you will also need to show you can cover living costs. For the rest of the paperwork, the international scholarship documents checklist helps you get transcripts and certificates in order.

Why the February 15 deadline is the one that counts

RIT Kosovo reviews files on a rolling basis and gives scholarship money on a first-come, first-served basis once a file is complete. With roughly 60 awards per cycle, the pot shrinks as the months go by. This is the single most important fact about this scholarship.

DateWhat happens
February 15Early application deadline, best chance at scholarship funds
April 15Regular application deadline
June 15Early tuition payment deadline, locks in the lowest tuition tier
August 1Regular tuition payment deadline
August 5Late application deadline

These dates are for the 2026-2027 cycle. Dates for later intakes may change, so confirm the current deadlines on the official scholarships page before you plan around them.

The late deadline exists, but applying in August for scholarship money is a long shot. By then much of the funding may already be committed. If your English or SAT test is not booked by December, you are likely to miss the early window. Work backwards from February 15.

Putting the application together

  1. Pick your program from the freshman admissions requirements on the RIT Kosovo admissions site.
  2. Take your English and math assessments, either RIT Kosovo's own exams or TOEFL/IELTS plus SAT/ACT.
  3. Submit the online application with your essay, two recommendation letters, transcripts and passport copy, ideally before the early deadline of February 15 or at least by April 15.
  4. Indicate financial need and request scholarship consideration in the application itself. Do not assume you are considered automatically.
  5. Wait for the admissions decision and any scholarship offer. If you accept, confirm enrollment and pay tuition by the early or regular payment deadline to lock in the lower tuition rate.

Where applicants lose money they could have kept

The first mistake is timing. Students treat the April or August deadline as "the deadline" and miss out because earlier files already took the funding. Apply early.

The second is writing an essay that only talks about ambition. Because this award weighs financial need as well as merit, your essay should cover both your academic goals and your financial circumstances. Be honest and specific.

The third is choosing referees for their titles rather than what they know about you. A principal who barely knows you writes a generic letter. A math or physics teacher who has watched you work can speak to your academic ability, and that is what the merit side of this award needs.

The fourth is forgetting the second payment deadline. Meeting the June 15 early payment deadline locks in the lowest tuition tier. Missing it means paying more on the same discount percentage.

Finally, budget for life in Pristina from day one. The scholarship is tuition only. Before you apply for a visa, also read our article on why student visas get rejected, since weak proof of living funds is a common problem.

Who should skip this? Students who need a fully funded award with a stipend. Students set on medicine or a major outside the campus's limited program list. Everyone else who wants an English-taught, US-accredited bachelor's at a manageable price should take a serious look.

Frequently asked questions

Can Pakistani students apply for the RIT Kosovo President's Partial Scholarship?

Yes. It is open to freshman applicants of any nationality. Some other RIT Kosovo awards are limited to Kosovo regions or specific neighboring countries, but this one is not.

How much tuition does it cover?

Between 20% and 50% of annual tuition, depending on academic merit and demonstrated financial need. Annual tuition for 2026-2027 is roughly €6,840 to €7,140, depending on the payment deadline you meet.

Does it pay for accommodation or living costs?

No. It covers tuition only. You need to budget separately for housing, food and other expenses in Pristina, which are relatively low compared with Western Europe.

Is the degree recognized outside Kosovo?

Degrees are conferred through RIT's School of Individualized Study in the United States, and the programs are accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. They are also licensed and recognized within Kosovo.

What if my IELTS score is below 6.5?

Conditional admission is possible with IELTS 4.5 or higher, or TOEFL iBT 52 or higher. Contact the admissions office at admissions@auk.org to confirm which pathway applies to you, and keep in mind that a stronger score helps your scholarship case.

Is the scholarship renewed every year?

It is eligible for renewal consideration in later years if you maintain academic standards, alongside other current-student awards such as GPA-based scholarships. Confirm the exact renewal conditions with the university.
