Forté Foundation MBA Fellows Program: How Selection, Funding and Eligibility Work

Forté Fellows are chosen by partner business schools from their admitted MBA classes. Here is how the award works, what it pays, and how Pakistani applicants can position themselves.

Most scholarships ask you to fill in one form and send it to one office. The Forté Foundation MBA Fellows Program does not work like that, and the students who miss this point usually miss the award. There is no central Forté application. You apply for an MBA at a Forté partner business school, get admitted, and that school decides whether to name you a Forté Fellow and how much money to attach.

That structure is the whole story. If you are a Pakistani professional planning a full-time MBA in the United States, Canada or Europe, and one or more of your target schools is a Forté partner, this program is effectively an extra layer of selection sitting on top of your normal MBA application. You can read the full scholarship details on our listing, but this guide explains how the program actually works and how to position yourself for it.

A fellowship decided by your business school, not by Forté

The Forté Foundation is a nonprofit consortium of business schools and corporations focused on increasing the number of women in business leadership roles. Its MBA Fellows Program is a network-wide designation. Each partner school picks its own Forté Fellows from its admitted MBA class and attaches a scholarship award. The amount and structure of that award are set by the individual school, not by Forté.

The network has more than 50 partner business schools, including many top-ranked programs in the United States, Canada and Europe. Which country you study in depends entirely on which partner school admits you and names you a Fellow.

Forté has directed more than $500 million in fellowships across its partner schools historically. That figure is a network total over many years. It tells you the program is large and established. It tells you nothing about what one Fellow at one school will receive.

Yes, Pakistani applicants qualify, and so do men

Forté is explicit that applicants of all nationalities and gender identities are eligible for Fellow status. So a Pakistani woman applying to a partner school's MBA is in scope, and so is a Pakistani man who can show a real commitment to advancing women in business. The program's mission is about women in leadership, but the eligibility rule is not limited to women.

The formal requirements, as Forté describes them, come down to five things:

  • You must apply for and be admitted to the full-time MBA program at a Forté partner business school.
  • You need demonstrated leadership in academics, career, teamwork, community service or creative initiatives.
  • You need a clear commitment to Forté's mission of advancing women in business.
  • A diverse educational, cultural or professional background is valued in selection.
  • You can be of any nationality or gender identity.

Note the first point. Part-time, executive and online MBA routes are not what the criteria describe. If your plan is a full-time MBA, you are in the right place. If not, look elsewhere.

What the money depends on

The scholarship part is where expectations need managing. The value ranges widely, from partial tuition scholarships to, in some cases, fuller funding packages. It depends on the specific MBA program and its Forté allocation for that year. Treat any full-funding outcome as the exception. Build your financial plan assuming a partial award, and be pleasantly surprised if it turns out better.

Alongside the school's award, a Fellow receives:

  • Access to the Forté MBA Fellows conference and a structured mentorship program that pairs Fellows with women executives and alumnae.
  • Career development resources and recruiting support through the Forté network.
  • Membership in a professional network that spans more than 50 partner schools.

For a Pakistani student entering a Western MBA market without an existing local network, the mentorship and recruiting side is arguably as useful as the cash. Recruiters and alumni in the US and Europe recognise the Forté name, and it gives you a credible line on your CV during internship season.

Because funding is rarely the full cost, you will still need to show funds for your visa. Our guide on bank statements and proof of funds for Pakistani students covers how to plan for that gap.

What you actually submit

There is no separate Forté dossier in most cases. Your MBA application is the Forté application. Expect to prepare:

  1. The standard MBA application to the partner school: essays, transcripts, GMAT or GRE score, references and CV.
  2. Any additional Forté Fellow nomination materials that the specific business school asks for. Some schools may request extra material, others may not, so check each school's instructions.
  3. Evidence of leadership and commitment to advancing women in business, which usually comes through your essays or interview.

Pakistani applicants should start transcript and degree paperwork early, since partner schools will want verified academic records. Our documents checklist for international scholarships is a useful starting point.

The five-stage route from MBA application to Fellow

  1. Choose one or more Forté partner business schools and apply to their full-time MBA program.
  2. Complete each school's standard MBA application. Fellow selection happens from within the admitted pool, so admission comes first.
  3. The school's admissions committee separately nominates and selects Forté Fellows from admitted candidates.
  4. Selected Fellows are notified of their scholarship award alongside or shortly after their MBA admission decision.
  5. After enrolling, Fellows register for the annual Forté MBA Fellows conference and mentorship program.

You do not apply to Forté directly. If you find yourself looking for a Forté application form, stop and go back to the admissions pages of your target schools.

Why your MBA round matters more than any Forté date

There is no single Forté deadline. Timing follows each partner school's MBA application rounds, which vary by school. As a general pattern, Round 1 is typically in September or October and Round 2 in January. Admission decisions and Fellow nominations follow each round on a schedule set by the individual school. The Forté MBA Fellows Conference takes place in the fall for newly admitted Fellows, and MBA programs begin in August or September.

Confirm the exact round deadlines on each school's admissions site, and ask each school whether its Forté awards are tied to particular rounds. Your Fellow chances are decided inside the admissions process, so the round you pick is effectively your Forté deadline.

Where Pakistani MBA applicants go wrong

The most common mistake is treating Forté as a separate scholarship to chase after admission. Fellows are nominated from the admitted pool and notified alongside or shortly after the admission decision, so there is little room to make your case later. Your essays and interview are where the Fellow case is made, so the commitment to advancing women in business has to show up in those documents from the start.

The second mistake is writing generic career goals. Forté's selection criteria are consistent across the network: exemplary leadership, a demonstrated commitment to advancing women in business, and a track record across academics, career, teamwork and community involvement. An essay about wanting to move into consulting does nothing for this. An essay that shows you mentored junior women colleagues, started a women's hiring initiative at your firm, or ran a community programme does.

Some practical advice:

  • Apply to several Forté partner schools. Each one selects independently, so more schools means more chances at a nomination.
  • Research each target school's history of Forté Fellow award amounts. Funding levels vary significantly by institution, and this should shape where you apply.
  • Highlight community involvement, mentorship of others and diversity-related work, since these are explicitly part of the criteria.
  • Engage with Forté's pre-MBA programming, such as forums and webinars, before you apply. It can strengthen both your application and your network.

Who should skip this? If you have no record of supporting women's advancement and no genuine interest in it, forcing that story into your essays will read as hollow. Admissions committees see a lot of applications. Focus on other merit scholarships at your schools instead.

No. Each Forté partner business school independently selects its own Forté Fellows from admitted MBA applicants and sets its own scholarship amount.

Can Pakistani men become Forté Fellows?

Yes. Forté states that applicants of all nationalities and gender identities are eligible to apply for Fellow status. You will still need to show a real commitment to advancing women in business.

Do I apply to Forté directly?

No. You apply to the MBA program at a Forté partner school, and that school's admissions committee selects Fellows from its admitted pool. Some schools may ask for additional nomination materials, so read each school's instructions.

How much funding does a Forté Fellowship provide?

It varies by school, from partial tuition scholarships to more substantial packages, depending on each institution's own allocation for that year. Check each target school's past awards before you decide where to apply.

Which countries can I study in?
