Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship

Up to 30 fellowships of US$12,000 each are awarded annually to women anywhere in the world who are registered in a full-time PhD or doctoral program with research applied to aerospace engineering or space science - covering areas such as aeronautics, astronautics, astrophysics as applied to space exploration, space-based engineering, and related propulsion or materials research. Unlike many niche scholarships, there is no nationality restriction: applicants from Pakistan and other developing countries compete on equal footing with candidates from the US, Europe, or East Asia.

The fellowship is flexible in how it can be used - toward tuition, laboratory or research costs, books, or general living expenses - which makes it particularly valuable for candidates who have secured admission and partial funding but need to close a financial gap to complete their doctorate. Applicants must have completed at least one year of their PhD program, or hold a master's degree in an aerospace-relevant field, at the time of application.

Beyond the money, being named an Amelia Earhart Fellow carries real prestige in the aerospace community and connects recipients to a worldwide network of past fellows and Zonta clubs, many of which offer mentorship, conference travel support, and introductions to industry contacts. For a Pakistani woman doing a PhD in aerospace or astronautical engineering, whether at a local institution like NUST or IST, or abroad, this is one of the few funding sources built specifically for her field and gender.
