University of Waterloo International Scholarships

The President's and Merit Scholarships are awarded automatically based on the early May admission average, calculated using the top six Grade 12 courses or equivalents. The President's Scholarship of Distinction is given for an average of 95 percent or higher, valued at a $2,000 entrance scholarship alongside a $1,500 International Experience Award and a $1,500 Research Award. The President's Scholarship awards $2,000 for averages between 90 and 94.9 percent, while the Merit Scholarship provides $1,000 for averages between 85 and 89.9 percent.

Individual faculties provide substantial additional funding. For instance, the Faculty of Science offers international student scholarships ranging from $25,000 to $80,000, and the Faculty of Mathematics provides National and Global Scholarships valued between $10,000 and $40,000 over eight academic terms. Specific awards also exist for Black and Indigenous students, offering up to $40,000 or targeted amounts depending on the faculty and criteria.

Many scholarships require no separate application and are assessed automatically through the admission process, while others necessitate submitting forms through the Waterloo applicant portal by specified deadlines such as April 15. Recipients must remain enrolled in full-time degree studies for the entire fall term to receive the full value of their entrance awards.
