University of Belize / Government of Belize ESL Scholarship (RLC)

The program runs for ten months, from January to October each cycle, and is built around the Certificate in English as a Second Language (CESL). Recipients live in Belize for the full duration of the program, attending intensive English classes while also being immersed in Belizean culture, which the RLC treats as a deliberate part of the language-learning experience rather than an incidental benefit. Because the RLC also runs Mandarin and Spanish language services and translation work, scholars end up on a genuinely multilingual, multinational campus rather than an isolated foreign-student track.

Funding covers full tuition and program fees for the ten months, all required teaching materials, and a monthly stipend intended to offset housing and general living costs in Belmopan. The scholarship does not cover the cost of the Belize visa or student permit, airfare, or personal spending money beyond the stipend, so applicants need to budget separately for those items and for the non-refundable US$15 application fee charged by the RLC (waivable in some cases depending on country of origin).

Because this is a certificate-level English program rather than a degree program, it functions well as either a standalone year of immersive English study and cultural exposure in Central America, or as a stepping stone for students who later want to pursue an associate's or bachelor's degree at the University of Belize itself, since UB's own degree programs also require demonstrated English competency (TOEFL 87+ or IELTS 5+) for applicants from non-English-speaking countries. For a Pakistani applicant with basic-to-intermediate English, the RLC scholarship offers a fully funded route to build English proficiency to that threshold while living in a small, safe, English-and-Spanish-speaking country.

Selection is competitive but small-scale: because it is a limited annual intake tied to Government of Belize funding, the RLC accepts only one applicant per immediate family and prioritizes applicants who can commit to the full ten months without interruption.
