Ross University School of Medicine International Scholar Award

The International Scholar Award is RUSM's flagship scholarship for exactly this population. It is reserved for incoming, first-semester MD applicants who hold citizenship or permanent residency in a country other than the United States or Canada, which covers Pakistani nationals and most other international applicants. The award is a substantial package: USD 100,000 applied toward MD program tuition, disbursed in equal installments across the first ten semesters of the program, plus an additional housing grant covering accommodation costs at the university's Coverley residential community in Barbados for up to five semesters. Combined, the package is valued at roughly USD 131,210.

Unlike many external scholarships that require a separate, lengthy application, the International Scholar Award is awarded automatically to eligible admitted students as part of the standard admissions review — there is no extra form to fill out beyond the regular MD program application. RUSM does not set a minimum GPA cutoff (the average incoming pre-requisite GPA is around 3.19), and while U.S. and Canadian applicants must submit MCAT scores, international applicants are not required to submit an MCAT score, though doing so is encouraged and can strengthen a file at admissions and scholarship-committee review.

Because RUSM follows a rolling admissions model with three entry points per year (January, May, and September), applicants are not bound to a single annual deadline the way they would be with most government scholarships — a Pakistani student can plan their application around whichever intake fits their academic calendar, and admissions decisions are typically issued within about two weeks of a complete file. This flexibility, paired with the scale of guaranteed funding for qualifying international admits, makes it one of the more accessible high-value scholarship routes into a Caribbean-based medical degree.

Applicants coming from an educational system different from the US/Canadian system (which includes Pakistan's) are expected to have completed a premedical curriculum broadly comparable to US/Canadian pre-med coursework (biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, English) and must submit a foreign transcript evaluation from a recognized credential evaluation service as part of the application file.
