PUCP Doctoral Scholarship (Beca Doctoral PUCP)

The scholarship covers 100% of academic fees and tuition (derechos académicos y de matrícula) for the doctoral program, plus a monthly maintenance stipend of S/ 4,000 (roughly USD 1,050, adjusted with exchange rates) intended to cover living costs in Lima. Recipients are also enrolled in PUCP's personal accident insurance and given full access to institutional resources: library systems, laboratories, specialized software, and dedicated workspace within their doctoral program. The award runs for one year and is renewable up to two additional years, aligning with the typical three-year structure of PUCP doctoral programs.

Eligibility is centered on academic readiness rather than nationality: applicants must already hold a master's degree (or equivalent), demonstrate English proficiency at CEFR level B2, and secure a letter of commitment from a PUCP faculty member willing to serve as thesis advisor before applying. The scholarship applies to essentially all PUCP doctoral programs (in fields ranging from engineering and social sciences to psychology, education, and the humanities), with the notable exceptions of the CENTRUM PUCP business doctorate and the Consortium's Strategic Management Doctorate, which run under separate funding schemes.

Because admission to a PUCP doctoral program and the scholarship application are two distinct, sequential steps, applicants need to plan well ahead: program admission must be secured first, after which a full scholarship dossier (personal statement, research proposal, CV, two reference letters, advisor commitment letter, and a research ethics declaration) is submitted separately to the Graduate School. This two-stage process, combined with the requirement of a confirmed thesis advisor, means outreach to a specific PUCP department months before the deadline is essential for international applicants.

For Pakistani students in particular, Peru is a low-competition, low-cost-of-living destination with a growing research profile in Latin America (PUCP is consistently ranked among the top 3-5 universities in the country and top-tier regionally by QS Latin America rankings). Lima offers a much lower cost of living than most Western study destinations, and the scholarship's stipend, while modest in dollar terms, comfortably covers local living expenses. Spanish is the language of instruction for most programs, so intermediate-to-advanced Spanish (in addition to the mandatory English B2) is a practical prerequisite even where not formally required for admission.
