Nostra Aetate Foundation Scholarship (Vatican)

Over more than three decades, the program has hosted students from a wide range of religious backgrounds - notably many Muslims and Buddhists - who study at pontifical academic institutions in Rome alongside structured engagement with officials of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue. The curriculum includes coursework on the history of the ecumenical and interreligious movement, the Second Vatican Council's teaching on other faiths, the popes' engagement with interreligious dialogue, and a formative visit to Assisi, the home of Franciscan spirituality and a global symbol of interfaith prayer.

This is not a scholarship for converting or evangelizing recipients; it is explicitly designed so that scholars return to their home countries and communities better equipped to participate in and lead ongoing interfaith dialogue, having gained first-hand understanding of Christian belief and practice. Many alumni of the program have gone on to become recognized figures in interreligious dialogue efforts within their own faith communities.

For a Pakistani applicant already active in interfaith work - whether from a Muslim, Christian-minority, Hindu, or Sikh background - who is looking to deepen academic and lived understanding of Christianity as part of interfaith engagement, this is a rare, fully hosted opportunity to study in Rome under direct Vatican sponsorship.
