Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), Macau's largest private research university, runs a tiered Admission Scholarship scheme for non-local undergraduate applicants from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, and other international countries. The scheme rewards outstanding academic performance and strong public examination results (such as A-Levels, IB, SAT, or equivalent national exams) with automatic scholarship consideration built directly into the standard undergraduate admission review, so applicants do not need to submit a separate scholarship application.
Three award tiers exist: the Distinguished Scholarship, which covers tuition, accommodation, and a living allowance for top-performing admits; the Full Scholarship, covering 100% of tuition fees; and the Half Scholarship, covering 50% of tuition fees. Each cohort has a capped number of recipients: MUST typically admits around 30 principal-recommended Hong Kong students plus roughly 10 additional Hong Kong admission-scholarship recipients, around 10 recipients from Taiwan, around 10 from Malaysia, and around 10 from the broader international applicant pool, though exact numbers can shift year to year.
Recipients must maintain a required class ranking to keep their award in subsequent years of study: Distinguished Scholarship holders must stay in the top 10% of their cohort, Full Scholarship holders in the top 20%, and Half Scholarship holders in the top 25%. This annual review structure means the scholarship functions as an ongoing incentive throughout the degree, not just a one-time entry award.
MUST also participates in the Macau Foundation's Belt and Road Scholarship, a separate, application-based award for students from Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Hungary, Portugal, Brazil, and Mongolia. Unlike the automatic Admission Scholarships, the Belt and Road Scholarship requires applicants to apply directly, and current award numbers should be confirmed on the Macau Foundation's own scholarship page since figures are adjusted periodically.
