Mexican Government Excellence Scholarship (AMEXCID)

The program runs through several modalities rather than a single fixed degree track: short academic mobility stays of up to 12 months for undergraduate and master's students already enrolled at a home university, complete master's degrees lasting up to 24 months, and research stays of 6 to 12 months for graduate students and early-career researchers. This flexibility makes it attractive both to students who want a full Mexican credential and to those who simply want a funded semester or two abroad.

Ninety participating Mexican Higher Education Institutions take part in the call, and all academic programs on offer are registered in Mexico's National Postgraduate System (Sistema Nacional de Posgrados) under the science and technology council, meaning quality assurance is built into the eligible program list. Applicants are not choosing blind; they can browse the annex of eligible institutions and programs before ever submitting a formal application.

Unlike many government scholarships that accept applications before university admission, AMEXCID requires candidates to first secure a letter of acceptance from a participating Mexican institution and only then formalize the scholarship request through the Sistema de Gestion de la Cooperacion Academica (SIGCA), the online academic cooperation management platform. This two-step structure rewards students who do their homework on Mexican programs early rather than applying speculatively.

Financially, the scholarship covers a monthly maintenance stipend sized to the destination city and degree level, full or partial tuition depending on the host institution's own tuition policy (many Mexican public universities charge nominal fees to begin with), compulsory medical insurance for the length of the stay, and in many cases international airfare plus domestic transportation once in Mexico. For students from Pakistan and other South Asian countries without an existing bilateral scholarship quota with Mexico, this is one of the few realistic fully funded paths to studying in Latin America.
