The Studienwerk of the Heinrich Böll Foundation supports students and doctoral candidates from all academic fields and all higher education institutions, both within Germany and abroad. As one of 13 talent promotion works in Germany, it provides support to well over 1,000 students and doctoral candidates each year.
The scholarship program contributes to educational equity and actively supports underrepresented groups, including applicants with refugee backgrounds. The foundation seeks individuals whose biographies reflect the core values of democracy, ecology, solidarity, and non-violence, and who engage actively in societal and political issues.
The program receives funding from the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space Travel (BMFTR) and the Federal Foreign Office (AA). Applicants can apply through specific application windows held twice a year.
The foundation provides both financial support and an ideational support program, including events, workshops, and access to an extensive alumni network.
