Guillaume Dupaix International Excellence Scholarship

Each year the university awards 30 scholarships, distributed as ten per faculty, split evenly between 'regular' students of any nationality and students nominated from a defined list of target countries, including several Western Balkan and Ibero-American nations as well as Thailand, Vietnam, Belarus, Egypt, India, Moldova, Russia, the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Ukraine. This structure means the university deliberately reserves half the awards to diversify its incoming Master's cohort beyond its traditional EU applicant pool, giving students from these regions a materially better chance of selection.

There is no separate application form. Every applicant to a University of Luxembourg Master's programme is automatically screened for scholarship eligibility by the programme director; students whose applications are judged academically excellent receive a direct email invitation to formally apply for the Dupaix award, at which point a motivation letter and two recommendation letters are required. This makes the strength of the original Master's application itself the deciding factor in whether a student is even invited to compete for funding.

The stipend, €5,763 per semester (€11,526 per year), is paid for up to two years, the standard duration of a Master's degree in Luxembourg, and is intended to cover part of living expenses and accommodation rather than tuition, which remains the student's responsibility. Recipients also receive priority access to a room in one of the university's own residences, a significant practical benefit given Luxembourg City's tight and expensive private rental market, provided they apply for housing promptly once notified.

Because the scholarship is funded by the university itself rather than a national aid scheme, it explicitly excludes students who are already recipients of Luxembourg's own State Financial Aid for Higher Education (MENGStudien) and programmes that include a mandatory outgoing mobility semester abroad, since those students study for part of the degree outside Luxembourg and would not need the living-cost support in the same way.
