Fulbright Foreign Student Program

The program supports international students in pursuing graduate-level studies, including Master's and Doctoral degrees, as well as non-degree research opportunities at U.S. host institutions. Each year, approximately 4,000 students receive grants to participate in the program, which includes access to U.S. campus life and academic resources.

There are two primary placement models for the program: IIE-Placement and Self-Placement. In the IIE-Placement model, the program's placement team manages the application process to U.S. institutions, negotiates funding, and handles admission decisions on behalf of the candidate. In the Self-Placement model, candidates manage their own applications to universities directly.

Eligibility and selection procedures are highly decentralized and vary by country. Applicants must apply through the Fulbright Commission, Foundation, or U.S. Embassy in their home country. The program is not open to students seeking degrees with clinical requirements such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, or nursing, though public health and nursing administration are permitted.

The program provides comprehensive support, including J-1 visa sponsorship, funding, health benefits, and enrichment activities. Participants are expected to be fluent in English and possess the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree with a strong academic record.
