About the Horizon Europe Doctoral Networks
The Marie Skลodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks program aims to train highly skilled doctoral candidates by creating partnerships between universities, research institutions, and non-academic organizations such as businesses and SMEs. These networks operate across Europe and beyond to boost researcher employability and innovation capacity.
The program supports three main types of doctorates: standard Doctoral Networks, Industrial Doctorates, and Joint Doctorates. Industrial Doctorates focus on training candidates for careers outside academia, while Joint Doctorates provide highly integrated, interdisciplinary collaboration leading to joint or multiple doctoral degrees.
Consortia must include at least three independent legal entities established in different EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries, with at least one entity based in an EU Member State. Additional organizations from any country worldwide may also join these consortia.
Individual researchers apply for specific PhD positions funded by these networks rather than applying to the program itself. Vacancies are advertised internationally, primarily through the EURAXESS portal, which provides details on requirements and application procedures for each specific project.
Projects can last up to four years, or up to five years for Joint Doctorate projects. Each fellowship duration ranges from 3 to 36 months, extending to 48 months for Joint Doctorate fellowships.
