European Master's Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (EMA / Global Campus Scholarship)

The program is split into two semesters: the first takes place at the Monastery of San Nicolò in Venice, Italy, where all students study together under a common human rights and democratisation curriculum taught by rotating faculty from across the network. The second semester allows students to specialise by moving to one of over 40 partner universities across Europe and beyond, choosing a thematic track such as human rights and conflict, business and human rights, or minority rights.

A defining feature of EMA is its deliberate diversity: the program actively recruits students from the Global South, including South Asia, and offers scholarships specifically intended to make the degree accessible regardless of financial background. Scholarship recipients have their tuition, and in many cases living costs in Venice, substantially covered.

Because the degree is explicitly interdisciplinary and practice-oriented, graduates go on to work with the United Nations, the European Union, international NGOs, national human rights commissions, and academia. For a Pakistani student interested in human rights law, minority rights, gender justice, or transitional justice, EMA offers a rare combination of rigorous European academic training and a genuinely global peer network.

Applications are centralised through the Global Campus of Human Rights, and admitted students are informed simultaneously about their scholarship status, since most funded seats are awarded competitively as part of the same admissions review rather than through a separate process.
