Akademie Schloss Solitude Fellowship

Fellowships run for 6 or 9 months and are structured around uninterrupted working time rather than formal coursework: fellows are given a private, furnished live/work studio on the palace grounds and are largely free to pursue their own artistic or research projects, with the academy organizing periodic public presentations, salons, and cross-disciplinary exchange events connecting fellows from very different fields.

Eligibility is based on practice, not academic credentials: applicants must have between 2 and 10 years of independent practice after completing their training (whether that training was formal or self-directed), keeping the pool open to practising artists and researchers rather than only recent graduates. Collectives of up to two people who have worked together for at least two years may also apply jointly.

Financial support includes a monthly stipend, free accommodation in a furnished studio, and a one-time travel allowance to and from Stuttgart, making the fellowship genuinely accessible to applicants who could not otherwise afford extended time away from paid work. For Pakistani artists, writers, and researchers in the sciences or humanities, Solitude offers a rare fully-supported route to sustained, uninterrupted creative or research work in Europe alongside an international peer group.

The call for applications opens roughly every two years for the following two-year fellowship cycle, so prospective applicants should track the academy's website closely, as review periods are relatively short and competitive.
