Asian Development Bank Internship Program

The program follows an annual cycle with a published application deadline - graduate students have historically applied by mid-March for placements later in the year - making it more predictable than some UN agencies' continuously rolling internship postings. Applications are submitted through ADB's Career and Employment System (ACES), where candidates apply to specific internship assignments listed under the bank's current opportunities.

Eligibility requires that applicants be a national of one of ADB's member countries (which includes Pakistan), have an excellent command of English, and be enrolled in a master's or PhD-level program at a school located in an ADB member nation for the entire duration of the internship. This structure means the program is squarely aimed at graduate students actively pursuing advanced degrees, not recent graduates or undergraduates.

All ADB interns receive a stipend for the duration of their placement, with the notable exception of those covered under special arrangements between select partner universities and ADB (in which case funding may come through the university instead). This stipend policy, combined with ADB's Manila headquarters location and global professional environment, makes the program a genuinely paid, substantive research experience rather than an unpaid administrative placement.

Because Pakistan is an ADB member country, Pakistani graduate students are directly eligible to apply on the same basis as students from any other member nation - there is no separate quota, but nationality from a member country is itself a core eligibility requirement, which favors Pakistani applicants relative to students from non-member states.
