Clinical Medicine
National Double First-Class
Xinxiang Medical University - now officially renamed Henan Medical University - is a provincial public medical university in central China. Most Pakistani students and the broader international community continue to know it as Xinxiang Medical University or XXMU. The institution's lineage traces back to a Western medicine clinic opened in the ancient city of Weihui by a British doctor in 1896, later transformed into Boji Hospital in 1903 by a Canadian missionary. The formal Medical School was established in 1950 and received Ministry of Education approval under its current structure in 1982.
XXMU is one of the most established non-MOE universities for international MBBS. The university has been delivering international medical education since 2001 - over two decades of continuous experience - with 19 batches of international graduates and more than 500 Pakistani and international students currently enrolled. Clinical Medicine at XXMU is designated as a national Double First-Class discipline.
The university hosts over 28,000 students across 22 schools, with 12,860 faculty and staff (including affiliated hospital members) on a 1,744-acre campus with 1.25 million square metres of construction area. The library holds 2.12 million paper books and 3,753 GB of electronic resources, supported by 230 million RMB worth of research equipment. International partnerships span the USA, UK, Japan, Australia, Canada, Sweden and Nepal.

Clinical Training
5 Hospitals
XXMU's 6-year Clinical Medicine programme is English-medium (Year 1: Chinese language foundation) with English as the primary medium for medical subjects. Unlike most non-MOE universities, no HSK examination is required at the time of admission or during Year 1 - HSK Level 4 is only required before students enter the clinical years (typically around Year 3 or 4). This more gradual language development timeline is one of XXMU's signature advantages and makes it especially appealing to students who want to ease into Chinese alongside their medical studies.
Clinical training spans 5 directly affiliated hospitals (including Grade AAA First Affiliated Hospital with 2,800+ beds and Fourth Affiliated Xinxiang Central Hospital with 3,000+ beds), 14 non-affiliated hospitals and over 100 teaching practice bases. XXMU has 19 graduated international batches and the institutional experience to support overseas student cohorts from across South Asia, Nepal, India, Africa and beyond. Clinical Medicine is designated as a national Double First-Class discipline.
Faculty strength: Faculty mix of highly qualified Chinese professors and international educators, with English as the primary medium for medical subjects.

Important Admission Requirements
MOE Listed vs Non-MOE: What it Means for You
XXMU / Henan Medical University is not on China's MOE list for English-medium MBBS programmes. However, unlike most non-MOE universities, NO HSK examination is required at admission or during Year 1 - HSK-4 is only needed before students enter the clinical years (~Year 3-4). This more gradual language timeline is a major XXMU advantage. The programme is internationally recognised by WHO, ECFMG and PMDC, with Clinical Medicine designated as a national Double First-Class discipline.
Language Requirement: HSK-4 Before Clinical Years (Not Year 1)
XXMU does not require HSK at the time of admission or during Year 1. HSK Level 4 is required before students can enter the clinical years of the programme, typically around Year 3 or 4. This is more student-friendly than universities requiring HSK-4 by the end of Year 1. Students should still begin Chinese language preparation early to be ready when the requirement applies.
Pakistan, India and Bangladesh Recognition
XXMU holds PMDC A-List standing - Pakistani graduates are eligible to sit the NRE/NLE licensing examination. Indian applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese medical universities generally do not meet current NMC (India) criteria for FMGE/NExT eligibility under the 2021 NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate regulations; verify the latest NMC requirements directly with the National Medical Commission before applying. Bangladeshi applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese programmes are not commonly included on BMDC's recognised foreign institutions list; verify the current BMDC list directly before applying. Always verify current council policy before applying.
