Years 2-3 cover basic medical sciences (Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Immunology). Years 4-5 cover clinical medicine with rotations across affiliated hospitals (Internal Medicine, Surgery, OB-GYN, Paediatrics, Neurology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Psychiatry and specialty departments). Year 6 is a compulsory clinical internship - completed at MMU affiliated hospitals in China (24,000 RMB) or in the student's home country at a flat fee of 4,500 RMB.

Important Admission Requirements
MOE Listed vs Non-MOE: What it Means for You
Mudanjiang Medical University is a Non-MOE listed university for the international MBBS programme. The course is English medium (with Chinese language integrated in Year 1), and uniquely among non-MOE universities in this guide, there is no HSK-4 requirement in Year 1 - HSK-4 is required only at degree completion. PMC/PMDC A-List status, WHO recognition, WCAME accreditation and ECFMG eligibility mean Pakistani and globally licensed pathways remain open. Applicants who want a fully English-medium MOE-listed programme should compare against MOE-listed universities in this guide. Confirm current PMDC/PMC NOC status with Titans Abroad before applying.
Language Requirement: HSK
MMU has one of the most student-friendly HSK policies among non-MOE universities. HSK-4 is NOT required in Year 1 - students are promoted into the 5-year Clinical Medicine degree without sitting HSK-4 during the foundation year. HSK-4 is required only at the time of degree completion (end of Year 6). Students should treat Chinese language study as a continuous commitment across all six years rather than leaving it entirely to the final stages.
Pakistan, India and Bangladesh Recognition
MMU is PMC/PMDC A-List approved for Pakistani graduates - one of the strongest recognitions for Pakistani students in China. Pakistani graduates are eligible to sit the NRE/NLE licensing examination. Indian applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese medical universities generally do not meet current NMC (India) criteria for FMGE/NExT eligibility under the 2021 NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate regulations; verify the latest NMC requirements directly with the National Medical Commission before applying. NEET remains mandatory for any Indian student studying MBBS abroad. Bangladeshi applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese programmes are not commonly included on BMDC's recognised foreign institutions list; verify the current BMDC list directly before applying.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Mudanjiang Medical University (MMU) recognised in Pakistan?
Yes. MMU is approved by PMC/PMDC Pakistan with A-List status - one of the strongest recognitions for Pakistani students in China. Pakistani graduates are eligible to sit the NRE/NLE licensing examination. MMU is also WHO recognised, WCAME accredited and ECFMG eligible. Always verify the current NOC status at the time of application.
Is HSK-4 required at Mudanjiang Medical University?
HSK-4 is NOT required in Year 1 - this is one of MMU's most distinctive student-friendly features. Students are promoted into the 5-year Clinical Medicine degree program after the foundation year without sitting HSK-4 during that time. HSK-4 is required at the time of degree completion (end of Year 6), so students must achieve this level before receiving their Clinical Medicine degree. Begin Chinese language preparation early to manage this comfortably.
What is the total cost for 6 years at MMU?
Approximately 1,49,800 RMB if the internship is completed in China (Year 1: 33,800 RMB; Years 2-6: 24,000 RMB each). If the internship is completed outside China, the Year 6 cost drops to a flat 4,500 RMB, reducing the 6-year total to approximately 1,32,300 RMB. The 1,000 RMB application fee and 2,000 RMB security deposit are additional upfront costs. Food, stationery and air tickets are not included.
Can the Year 6 internship be done outside China at MMU?
Yes. Students who complete their Year 6 internship outside China pay a flat fee of 4,500 RMB instead of the standard 24,000 RMB - a significant cost saving and one of the more flexible internship policies in this guide. Pakistani students should confirm with PMC that a home-country internship will be accepted for NRE/NLE eligibility before making this choice.
What is the security deposit at MMU and how does it work?
A security deposit of 2,000 RMB is payable after the pre-admission letter is issued. It is non-refundable but is deducted from the total fee package when the student arrives at the university and pays their first-year fees. It is effectively an advance payment toward Year 1 costs rather than an additional charge.
What hospitals do MMU students train in?
MMU students train across a network of 2 directly affiliated hospitals, 6 non-directly affiliated hospitals and 43 teaching hospitals with a combined 25,880 beds - the largest non-MOE clinical training infrastructure in northeastern China. The primary clinical training base is Mudanjiang City Hospital (First Affiliated Hospital), founded in 1958, with 2,956 beds and 2,952 staff, ranked among the Top 10 affiliated hospitals in Heilongjiang Province.
What is the climate like in Mudanjiang?
Mudanjiang has a continental climate with warm summers reaching up to 28ยฐC and cold winters that can drop to -20ยฐC or below. Students from South Asia should prepare for cold winters with appropriate winter clothing. University dormitories and teaching buildings have full central heating. The city's clean natural environment and proximity to Jingpo Lake and scenic forests make it a pleasant place to study despite the cold winters.
Is MMU MOE listed?
No. MMU is not on China's Ministry of Education list for English-medium MBBS programs. For Pakistani students, this does not affect recognition as MMU holds PMC/PMDC A-List status and WHO recognition. For Indian and Bangladeshi students, recognition is more limited - see country-specific FAQs.
Can I get a single room at MMU?
Yes. The standard hostel option is 2-sharing rooms at 4,800 RMB/year. Students wishing to stay in a single-sharing room pay an additional 4,800 RMB per year on top of the standard fee (total 9,600 RMB/year for hostel).
Can Indian students study MBBS at MMU? Is NEET required?
Indian students are welcome to apply, but Indian applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese medical universities generally do not meet current NMC (India) criteria for FMGE/NExT eligibility under the 2021 NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate regulations. Most Indian students seeking guaranteed NMC compliance choose MOE-listed Chinese universities instead. Verify the latest NMC requirements directly with the National Medical Commission before applying. NEET (50th percentile General / 40th percentile reserved) remains mandatory for any Indian student studying MBBS abroad.
Can Bangladeshi students study MBBS at MMU? Is the degree BMDC recognised?
Bangladeshi students may apply, but applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese programmes are not commonly included on BMDC's recognised foreign institutions list, which predominantly covers MOE-listed Chinese medical universities. Verify the current BMDC list directly before applying. Most Bangladeshi students seeking guaranteed BMDC recognition choose MOE-listed Chinese universities instead. SSC and HSC certificates with Physics, Chemistry and Biology are the core academic requirements.
What does the May 2024 renaming mean for students?
In May 2024, the Ministry of Education of China officially approved the renaming of the institution from Mudanjiang Medical College to Mudanjiang Medical University. This elevation reflects the institution's expanded academic scope, enhanced research capacity (master's degree authorisation since 2013) and broader undergraduate program offerings. The clinical training infrastructure and PMC/PMDC A-List recognition continue unchanged.
