JMU has accepted international students since 1991 (medical programme since 2005) and is PMDC approved, WHO listed, ECFMG recognised and WDOMS registered.
JMU spans two campuses covering 1.63 million square metres with 26,000+ full-time undergraduates and 450+ international students. The First Affiliated Hospital is a Grade III Class A comprehensive teaching hospital established in 1946 with 1,542 staff, 1,600 in-patient beds and 43 clinical departments processing 500,000+ annual outpatient/emergency visits. The Second Affiliated Hospital is the first tertiary Class A oral specialist hospital in Heilongjiang. The Third Affiliated Hospital is China's first specialised cerebral palsy prevention and rehabilitation institution. Clinical Training
4 Hospitals
JMU's 6-year Clinical Medicine MBBS programme is English-medium (Year 1 is a Chinese language foundation year) with one of the more demanding three-stage HSK progressions: no HSK in Year 1, HSK-3 by end of Year 1, HSK-4 before the Year 6 internship, and HSK-5 before graduation. Pre-departure Chinese preparation is strongly recommended. Dual March and September intakes give JMU rare scheduling flexibility among non-MOE universities.
Clinical training is centred at the Grade III Class A First Affiliated Hospital (1,600 beds, 43 departments) plus the specialist Stomatology and Rehabilitation hospitals and 8 additional network hospitals. The MBBS programme accepts international students since 2005, providing 20 years of continuous international medical education delivery.
Faculty strength: International partnerships with UCLA, University of Michigan, University of Toronto, Hokkaido and Seoul National University.

Students from South Asia must arrive with proper winter clothing and mental preparation.
Campus accommodation features 3-sharing in-campus hostels with internet, study rooms and central heating. Halal food is available on and near campus, with a Muslim market accessible for ingredient shopping. Sports facilities include tennis, ice hockey, speed skating, swimming pool, gymnasium, track and field - a uniquely strong winter sports infrastructure.

Important Admission Requirements
MOE Listed vs Non-MOE: What it Means for You
JMU is not on China's MOE list for English-medium MBBS. The international Clinical Medicine programme is English-medium (Year 1 is a Chinese language foundation year) with three-stage HSK requirements. PMDC, WHO and ECFMG recognition remain in place. Pakistani graduates can sit the PMDC/PMC licensing examination after MBBS completion. Non-MOE status does not affect international recognition or licensing eligibility.
Language Requirement: Three-Stage HSK (3 / 4 / 5)
JMU has one of the more demanding HSK progressions: no HSK at entry, HSK-3 by end of Year 1, HSK-4 before the Year 6 internship, and HSK-5 before graduation. Sustained Chinese language commitment across all six years is essential.
Pakistan, India and Bangladesh Recognition
JMU is PMDC/PMC approved - Pakistani graduates are eligible to sit the NRE/NLE licensing examination. Indian applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese medical universities generally do not meet current NMC (India) criteria for FMGE/NExT eligibility under the 2021 NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate regulations; verify the latest NMC requirements directly with the National Medical Commission before applying. Bangladeshi applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese programmes are not commonly included on BMDC's recognised foreign institutions list; verify the current BMDC list directly before applying. Always verify current council policy before applying.
