Jiamusi University (JMU) was founded in 1947 as the Hejiang Military Health Cadre School and has grown into a public comprehensive university and Heilongjiang Provincial Key University. The climate is subarctic continental monsoon with extreme winters (-30 to -35°C from December through February) and warm pleasant summers at 20-25°C.
