The university is a pilot institution for the Hubei Outstanding Doctor Education and Training Plan.
HBUST operates two campuses (Wenquan and Xian'an) spanning 1,861 acres with 20,000+ students (300+ international, 300+ graduate). Important Admission Requirements
MOE Listed vs Non-MOE: What it Means for You
HBUST is not on China's MOE list for English-medium MBBS. The international Clinical Medicine programme is English-medium (Year 1 is a Chinese language foundation year) requiring HSK-4 within Year 1. PMDC, WHO, ECFMG, WDOMS and FAIMER recognition remain in place, so Pakistani graduates can sit the PMDC/PMC licensing examination after MBBS completion. Verify the latest PMDC/PMC policy on non-MOE universities before applying.
Language Requirement: HSK-4 Within Year 1
HSK Level 4 must be passed within Year 1 per Ministry of Education rules. Students unable to pass cannot progress to the 5-year Clinical Medicine curriculum and must continue language study, transfer to another institution or withdraw. Year 1 is dedicated to Chinese language study; pre-departure preparation reduces pressure.
Pakistan, India and Bangladesh Recognition
HBUST is PMDC approved - Pakistani graduates are eligible to sit the NRE/NLE licensing examination. Indian applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese medical universities generally do not meet current NMC (India) criteria for FMGE/NExT eligibility under the 2021 NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate regulations; verify the latest NMC requirements directly with the National Medical Commission before applying. Bangladeshi applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese programmes are not commonly included on BMDC's recognised foreign institutions list; verify the current BMDC list directly before applying. Always verify current council policy before applying.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Hubei University of Science and Technology (HBUST) PMDC approved?

Based on the official fee structure, the estimated core total across all 6 years is approximately RMB 1,26,500 (Year 1: 26,500 + Years 2-6: 20,000 x 5). Government fees (Years 2-6) at actual market rates, books, food, electricity and personal expenses are additional. The 1,500 RMB application fee is paid separately.

Merit-based awards. The Hubei Provincial Government Scholarship covers up to 50,000 RMB annually for the top 1-5% of students (one of the highest annual values in this guide). The HBUST University Scholarship distributes 100,000 RMB total to 30% of enrolled international students.

How close is HBUST to Wuhan?
Xianning is approximately 70 km from Wuhan and only 20 minutes away by high-speed train. Wuhan Tianhe International Airport is accessible in under 1 hour, making HBUST one of the most Wuhan-accessible non-MOE university cities.
What is the 5,000 RMB security deposit?
The 5,000 RMB security deposit is paid after receiving the pre-admission notice and is deducted from the Year 1 package (so the on-arrival payment is 21,500 RMB instead of 26,500). The deposit is non-refundable.
Is HBUST MOE listed?
No. HBUST is not on China's MOE list for English-medium MBBS programmes. The programme is English-medium (Year 1: Chinese language foundation) and HSK-4 is required within Year 1. Pakistani graduates remain eligible for PMDC/PMC licensing via PMDC recognition.

Indian students are welcome to apply, but Indian applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese medical universities generally do not meet current NMC (India) criteria for FMGE/NExT eligibility under the 2021 NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate regulations. Most Indian students seeking guaranteed NMC compliance choose MOE-listed Chinese universities instead. Anyone considering this university must independently verify the latest NMC requirements directly with the National Medical Commission before applying. NEET (50th percentile General / 40th percentile reserved) remains mandatory for Indian students studying MBBS abroad in any case.
Can Bangladeshi students study MBBS at HBUST? Is the degree BMDC recognised?
Bangladeshi students may apply, but applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese programmes are not commonly included on BMDC's recognised foreign institutions list, which predominantly covers MOE-listed Chinese medical universities. Bangladeshi students should verify the current BMDC list directly before applying. Most Bangladeshi students seeking guaranteed BMDC recognition choose MOE-listed Chinese universities instead. SSC and HSC certificates with Physics, Chemistry and Biology are the core academic requirements.
