Top 10 Most Livable Cities in China
Shiyan is located in northwestern Hubei Province, bordering Henan to the northeast, Chongqing to the southwest, and Shaanxi to the north and west. The city was purpose-built in the 1960s as part of China's Third Front construction programme, when strategic industries were established in remote interior locations. This results in a dramatic landscape of mountain-ringed valleys carved into the mountains of northwestern Hubei. Shiyan is home to Dongfeng Motor Corporation and was named one of China's top ten most livable cities.
The surrounding region features exceptional natural attractions: Wudang Mountain (UNESCO World Heritage Site and sacred Taoist mountain), Danjiangkou Reservoir (the largest artificial freshwater lake in Asia), and Shennongjia Forest (UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site). Food expenses typically run 1,000-1,200 RMB monthly. Campus hostels include 2-, 3- and 4-share rooms; Muslim canteens are available on campus and nearby. The Basic Medical Experimentation Centre runs 230 standard experiments; the Clinical Skills Centre spans 6,500 square metres with simulation and animal surgery labs.
Student life: Muslim canteens on campus and nearby, mountain-ringed valley setting, proximity to UNESCO World Heritage sites and 400+ international students from 40+ countries.

Important Admission Requirements
MOE Listed vs Non-MOE: What it Means for You
HUM is not on China's MOE list of 45 universities for English-medium MBBS. The international Clinical Medicine programme is English-medium (Year 1 is a Chinese language foundation year) requiring HSK-4 within Year 1. PMDC, WHO, WFME and ECFMG recognition remain in place, and HUM's ESI Top-1% standing means academic credentials exceed many MOE-listed peers. Pakistani graduates can sit the PMDC/PMC licensing examination after MBBS completion.
Language Requirement: HSK-4 Within Year 1
HSK Level 4 must be passed within Year 1 per HUM university policy. Failure to pass prevents advancement into the 5-year clinical curriculum. Year 1 is dedicated to Chinese language study to prepare students for HSK-4 - pre-departure preparation reduces pressure during Year 1.
Pakistan, India and Bangladesh Recognition
HUM is PMDC approved - Pakistani graduates are eligible to sit the NRE/NLE licensing examination. Indian applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese medical universities generally do not meet current NMC (India) criteria for FMGE/NExT eligibility under the 2021 NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate regulations; verify the latest NMC requirements directly with the National Medical Commission before applying. Bangladeshi applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese programmes are not commonly included on BMDC's recognised foreign institutions list; verify the current BMDC list directly before applying. Always verify current council policy before applying.
