Handan is a prefecture-level city of approximately 9 million people in southern Hebei. Historically known as the Capital of Chinese Idioms and as the capital of the Zhao Kingdom during the Warring States period (386-228 BC), the city holds significant archaeological and cultural heritage. Modern Handan is a major industrial and commercial hub with well-developed transport - Handan East Railway Station is on the Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed rail corridor, with Beijing reachable in approximately 2 hours.
The climate is continental monsoon with four seasons: winters at -3 to -8°C (milder than northeastern China) and summers at 28-34°C. Campus accommodations include apartment-style rooms with 2 students per apartment, ensuite shower, toilet, WiFi and air conditioning.
