September and March (dual)

Guilin Medical University (GLMU) was founded in 1935 as the Guilin Senior Nurse Midwifery School and has evolved over nearly 90 years - achieving university status in 1987, master's degree authorisation in 2006, and doctoral programme approval in 2021. GLMU carries significant academic standing in clinical medicine within Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The university operates three campuses: Le Qun (downtown, beside the Li River), Dong Cheng (main international campus), and Lingui (largest, eco-friendly setting). Current scale includes 30,000+ students at all levels, 5,300+ faculty and medical staff, and 23 colleges and departments. Recent research output includes 945 projects with 117 at national level.

GLMU hosts 1,000+ international students from 40+ countries. The English-medium MBBS programme (Year 1: Chinese language foundation) is PMC/PMDC approved, WHO listed, and ECFMG, WFME and FAIMER recognised. International collaborations span Japan, USA, South Korea, Australia, Vietnam and Thailand. Muslim canteens, separate gender hostels, low Guilin living costs and dual September/March intakes make GLMU a flexible, accessible choice for Pakistani and South Asian students.

Clinical Training

3 Hospitals

GLMU's 6-year Clinical Medicine MBBS programme is English-medium (Year 1 is a Chinese language foundation year) with one of the most accessible HSK policies among non-MOE universities - HSK-4 is not required in Year 1, allowing students more time to build Chinese language proficiency alongside foundation sciences. The dual September/March intake system gives applicants more scheduling flexibility than the single-intake norm.

Clinical training utilises 9 affiliated hospitals with 5,000+ combined beds (4 directly affiliated), 27 clinical teaching hospitals, and 80+ teaching practice bases across Guangxi. The Year 6 internship offers flexibility: students may complete it at GLMU's affiliated hospitals in China or in their home country.

Faculty strength: Faculty span 23 colleges including doctoral-level research strength achieved in 2021.

Important Admission Requirements

๐Ÿ“Step 1

MOE Listed vs Non-MOE: What it Means for You

GLMU is not on China's MOE list for English-medium MBBS. The international Clinical Medicine programme is English-medium (Year 1 is a Chinese language foundation year) with a gradual HSK progression (HSK-4 not required in Year 1). PMC/PMDC, WHO, ECFMG and WFME recognition remain in place, so Pakistani graduates can sit the PMDC/PMC licensing examination after MBBS completion. Verify the latest PMDC/PMC policy on non-MOE universities before applying.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธStep 2

Language Requirement: HSK-4 NOT Required in Year 1

GLMU does not require HSK-4 in Year 1 - one of the most accessible language policies among non-MOE Chinese universities. Students build Chinese proficiency progressively over the early years before clinical rotations begin. Pre-departure Mandarin preparation is still recommended.

๐Ÿ’ณStep 3

Pakistan, India and Bangladesh Recognition

GLMU is PMC/PMDC approved - Pakistani graduates are eligible to sit the NRE/NLE licensing examination. Indian applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese medical universities generally do not meet current NMC (India) criteria for FMGE/NExT eligibility under the 2021 NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate regulations; verify the latest NMC requirements directly with the National Medical Commission before applying. Bangladeshi applicants should note that non-MOE Chinese programmes are not commonly included on BMDC's recognised foreign institutions list; verify the current BMDC list directly before applying. Always verify current council policy before applying.
