The Curtin Mauritius Global Scholars Program is a pathway scholarship for students who want an Australian Curtin University degree but cannot face paying Perth-campus fees for the whole course. You start your bachelor's at Curtin Mauritius, the Mauritius campus of Australia's Curtin University (based at the Charles Telfair Campus in Moka), finish roughly one year there, and then move into the second year of the same course at Curtin's main campus in Perth, Western Australia. Every student accepted into the program gets an A$15,000 scholarship credited against tuition.
That is the whole idea in one paragraph. It is a cost-cutting route into an Australian degree, with a cheaper first year on an island campus and a built-in transfer. You can read the full scholarship details on our scholarship page, but this guide goes through who it actually suits, what the money does and does not do, and where applicants trip up.

Who this pathway makes sense for
The strongest case for this program is a Pakistani student who wants an Australian degree, has the grades and English for Curtin, but whose family budget does not stretch to starting in Perth from day one. The degree you graduate with is the same Curtin University degree a student who spent every year in Perth would receive. The certificate does not care where you did your first year.
It also suits students who are nervous about moving straight to a big, expensive city. Curtin Mauritius is a smaller campus, and Mauritius is a politically stable, English and French speaking country. A year there is a gentler first step before Australia.
Who should skip it? Anyone who wants to stay in Mauritius for the whole degree. The program is built around moving to Perth in year two. If you want to finish entirely in Mauritius, apply to a standard Curtin Mauritius course instead. And if you were hoping for a fully funded scholarship, this is not one. The A$15,000 helps, but you will still be paying tuition and all of your living costs.
What the A$15,000 actually pays for
The scholarship is a tuition credit. It is applied against your fees over the course of the degree and never lands in your bank account. It does not cover rent, food, flights or visa fees, in Mauritius or in Perth.
The rest of the value comes from the structure itself:
- Your first year is at Curtin Mauritius, where tuition and living costs are lower than at the Perth campus.
- The transfer into year two of the equivalent course in Perth is pre-arranged, so you do not reapply for your course when you move.
- Curtin's Perth team supports the transition, including enrolment continuity and the visa move to Australia.
- The final qualification is an Australian Curtin University degree, identical to one completed entirely in Perth.
Put together, the credit plus a cheaper first year makes the total cost of a Curtin degree noticeably lower than enrolling in Perth from the start. The program does not say how much lower in rupees or dollars, so do your own sums with current fee figures from Curtin before you commit.
The new-to-Curtin rule and other eligibility conditions
The program has no nationality restriction beyond being a new-to-Curtin international student, so Pakistani applicants can apply if they meet the academic and English requirements and get a Mauritian student visa. The conditions are:
- You must be new to Curtin. If you have already started a course at any Curtin global campus, you are not eligible.
- You must meet the standard academic entry requirements for your chosen undergraduate course at Curtin Mauritius.
- You need English proficiency at Curtin's admission standard (IELTS or equivalent, unless you are exempt).
- You complete approximately 200 credit points, about one year, at Curtin Mauritius before transferring.
- Non-Mauritian citizens, which includes Pakistanis, need a Mauritian student visa for the first year.
- You must keep meeting academic progression requirements to stay eligible for the Perth transfer.
The new-to-Curtin rule catches people out. If you enrolled at a Curtin campus somewhere else, even briefly, check with admissions before you spend time on this application. The exact score requirements and any English test exemptions are set by Curtin, so confirm them for your course directly.
Two applications, not one
This is the point most applicants miss. The scholarship is not applied automatically when you get a course offer. You submit your course application first, then a separate Global Scholars Program application form. The documents you need across both are:
- Completed Curtin Mauritius course application
- Completed Global Scholars Program application form
- Academic transcripts and secondary school certificates (attested or translated if not in English)
- Valid passport copy
- English proficiency test results (IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent, if applicable)
- Passport-sized photographs
For Pakistani students, the transcripts line is where delays usually happen. If your certificates need attestation, start early. Our IBCC and MOFA attestation guide walks through that process.
From course offer to Perth: the order of steps
- Choose an eligible undergraduate course at Curtin Mauritius and apply through the international application route.
- Once you have an offer, download the Global Scholars Program application form from the Curtin Mauritius website and fill it in using Adobe Acrobat.
- Attach your transcripts, passport and English test results to that form and submit it to Curtin Mauritius.
- If you are accepted into the program, confirm your enrolment and arrange your Mauritian student visa.
- Complete your first year (around 200 credit points) in Mauritius, with the A$15,000 applied against your tuition.
- Before year two, work with the Curtin Perth transfer team to finalise your move and continue the same degree in Perth.
The Adobe Acrobat detail sounds minor, but filling a PDF form in a browser viewer can lose your entries. Use Acrobat as instructed.
Timing around the February and July intakes
There is no single fixed deadline. Applications are open year-round on a rolling basis, tied to the February and July intakes, and you need to apply before your chosen intake closes. The sequence looks like this:
- Applications are open all year.
- Your course offer arrives at a time that depends on when you applied.
- You submit the Global Scholars Program form after receiving the course offer.
- Year one starts in Mauritius at the February or July intake.
- You transfer to Perth at the start of year two, after completing about 200 credit points.
Rolling does not mean relaxed. Because the scholarship form only comes after your course offer, and the visa only after the scholarship, every delay stacks. Mauritian student visa processing for first-year international students can take several weeks. Confirm current intake dates with Curtin Mauritius admissions at study@curtinmauritius.ac.mu.
Where applicants go wrong
Assuming every course qualifies. The program is described as open across Curtin Mauritius undergraduate degrees, but you should still confirm that your specific course is eligible before applying. Ask admissions in writing.
Treating the Perth transfer as automatic no matter what. The transfer is pre-arranged, but staying eligible depends on meeting progression requirements in year one. A weak first year can cost you the move to Perth. Take year one seriously, even if Mauritius feels like a warm-up.
Budgeting only for Mauritius. The cheaper living costs end when you land in Perth. From year two onward you are paying Australian living expenses, and the scholarship only offsets tuition. Your family should plan for the Perth years before you sign up, not after.
Ignoring the second visa. You need a Mauritian student visa for year one and then an Australian student visa for Perth. Curtin's Perth team supports the Australian visa step, but you will still have to show you can fund your studies there. It helps to understand how proof of funds works for Pakistani students well before year two.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Curtin Mauritius Global Scholars Program fully funded?
No. It is a partial scholarship: an A$15,000 credit applied toward tuition fees. Living costs and the rest of your tuition are your responsibility.
Can Pakistani students apply?
Yes. There is no nationality restriction beyond being a new-to-Curtin international student. You need to meet the academic and English requirements and obtain a Mauritian student visa.
Can I stay in Mauritius for my whole degree instead of moving to Perth?
Not through this program. It is structured around year one in Mauritius and year two onward in Perth. If you want to stay in Mauritius, apply to a standard Curtin Mauritius course.
Do I need a separate scholarship application?
Yes. You submit the Global Scholars Program form in addition to your course application, after you receive a course offer. The scholarship is not applied without it.
What happens with my visa when I move to Australia?
You hold a Mauritian student visa for year one. Curtin's Perth team supports you in arranging the appropriate Australian student visa ahead of the year-two transfer.
Will my degree say I studied in Mauritius?
The final qualification is an Australian Curtin University degree, identical to one completed entirely in Perth.
